Roland Park Country School is Hiring a Bus Driver/Maintenance Technician Near Baltimore, MD

GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Bus Driver/Maintenance Technician reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and is an essential member of the maintenance team. This individual primarily performs intermediate skilled work in the maintenance, repair, modification, installation, and construction of structures in the school building and facility. Maintenance and repair work includes, but is not limited to, electrical, painting, carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, refrigeration, masonry, and roofing work. In addition to maintenance responsibilities, this individual will also drive school-owned buses for divisional field trip and athletic department games and practices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
MAINTENANCE
Repairs and maintains HVAC, motors, controls, accessories, plumbing systems and piping, heaters, boilers, pumps, water coolers, electrical systems, breakers, switches, relays, light systems, capacitors, etc.
Monitors, maintains and repairs PA systems and installs televisions, AV equipment and cables.
Works on doors and locks and installs hardware.
Monitors HVAC system.
Repairs kitchen equipment.
Repairs and replaces signage.
Installs and replaces playground equipment and performs general grounds-keeping duties.
Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC units, boilers, pumps, kitchen equipment, exhaust fans with coolers, fire doors, extinguishers, roof, gutters, time clocks, etc.
Assembles furniture and repairs and installs bulletin boards, whiteboards, projection screens, etc.
Installs and tests data communication wiring.
Renovates offices and classrooms and adds walls, doorways, and fixtures.
Replaces ceiling tiles and paints and repairs drywall.
Research parts for repairs and locates; maintains inventory on filters, plumbing, door, and electrical supplies; takes and stocks deliveries of school supplies.
Repairs fencing, gutters, downspouts, roofs, etc.
Performs the duties of a custodian as required by supervisor.
Assists with snow removal and ice control.
Performs related tasks as required and any other duties assigned by supervisor related to supporting the Facilities Services Department.
BUS DRIVER
Drives bus to transport students to and from school activities.
Inspects bus, checks gas, oil and water before departure.
Complies with local traffic regulations and all school procedures.
Reports any safety incidents or accidents immediately (no later than 12 hours after incident).
Performs driving test for employees driving the activity buses.
Maintains a valid Maryland CDL with passenger endorsement.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of the common practices, tools and terminology of the mechanical and building maintenance.
General knowledge of the use and characteristics of common building materials.
General knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with the assigned trade.
Skill in the use of tools and equipment.
The ability to read and understand construction documents, electrical schematics, sketches, drawings, and other specifications.
The ability to follow oral and written instructions.
The ability to estimate needed materials and time required for various jobs.
The ability to work on a variety of tasks simultaneously with frequent interruption.
Knowledge and basic experience using electronic email (e.g., Outlook, etc.), a computer and smartphone is essential.
The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
Considerable HVAC, electrical or general maintenance experience.
Valid MD driver's license required.
Valid MD CDL License or the ability to achieve CDL Certification.
A refrigerant license preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Work requires climbing, standing for long periods of time, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, bending, squatting, stooping, crawling, and repetitive motions.
Must be able to ascend/descend stairs.
Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
Requires hearing to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
Must be able to work outdoors under various environmental conditions, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils.
Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
WORK CONDITIONS
The Bus Driver/Maintenance Technician is a full-time, 12-month non-exempt position.
Generally, works Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with flexibility as business need requires.
Ability to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as business needs require.
The individual in this position is expected to work during all hours as may be assigned by the School and during other hours for events and activities.
The Bus Driver/Maintenance Technician is expected to perform their job duties on campus unless otherwise permitted by the Head of School.
As a condition of employment, all employees hired after August 1, 2021, are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and be able to provide proof of such vaccination.
BACKGROUND CHECK:
A background check (including criminal records and employment history review) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can begin work with RPCS. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status or start of employment.
TRAVEL REQUIRED:
Occasional local travel may be required.
