About the Position

The Data Systems team is responsible for the health, maintenance, development, security and integrity of ROI’s databases, and data related tools. The Data Systems team interfaces and works closely with the other departments in the company to ensure the continued growth and success of the company and its clients.

What You Will Be Doing In This Role

The Data Systems Team Lead (DSTL) will be responsible for supporting multiple applications and data transformation between internal and external applications. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience in a multitude of domains; including, but not limited to; 24 x 7 x 365 enterprise and cloud database infrastructure design and management, security, business continuity, disaster recovery, database design, database development, database tuning, enterprise data storage and backup, service delivery, incident tracking, change management, and general database administration. 

The DSTL interfaces with other Data Systems team members and assists with the translation of business requirements into the high performing, quality database programs. They will act both as a project leader and an individual contributor across a portfolio of Data Systems initiatives. They will assist in managing the overall workload of the team, understanding initiatives that are in process and adjusting priorities based on new inbound stakeholder requests on an ad-hoc basis. The DSTL provides high quality technical services along with clear and consistent communication on the status of all requests, jobs, and deliverables to relevant stakeholders.

The Team Lead possesses substantial knowledge of industry leading database engines, their respective programming languages, and associated ELT/ETL solutions. They will adhere to coding standards for all database programming and ensure that program units are flexible, reusable, and fully documented. The DSTL will work with other members of the database team to choose appropriate programming languages and/or tools to support needed business functions.

Responsibilities: 

  • Oversees the design, assessment, selection, optimization, and maintenance of major databases and data integration solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and provide strategic solutions. 
  • Monitor and optimize data systems performance for efficiency and scalability.
  • Develop and implement security measures to protect sensitive information and ensure data integrity.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data systems related issues, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum availability. 
  • Perform regular backups, disaster recovery planning, and maintenance tasks as applicable for both on prem and cloud-based platforms
  • Automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
  • Assist with capacity planning and forecasting future data systems requirements.
  • Produce documentation for database designs, how-to articles, configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Provide on-call support for database-related emergencies and after-hours server patch updates.
  • Designs, develops, and tests data migration solutions as needed.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies, providing recommendations for continuous improvement. 
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior members of the database administration team.

What You Bring to the Table: 

  • 5 years experience in similar roles that involve responsibility, accountability, and hands-on experience with data systems architecture, design, development, and implementation.
  • 5 years experience working with databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, RDS, etc.)
  • 2 years experience with data integrations (replication or ELT/ETL-Fivetran, DBT, Hightouch, Glue etc)
  • 1 years experience managing data systems in cloud environments  (AWS, Azure, Google)
  • 1 years experience working with cloud analytics destinations (Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks, etc.)
  • Expertise with Postgres system metrics and optimization strategies
  • Experience with cloud platforms, AWS preferred, particularly in deploying and managing databases on cloud environments. 

Other Nice to Have Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, a related field, or Skilled Through Alternative Routes.
  • Experience working in Agile Methodology.
  • Experience with both Windows server and Linux systems.
  • Working knowledge of GitHub/GitLab.
  • Knowledge of data replication & data modeling in cloud environments
  • Substantial knowledge of PL/SQL
  • Familiarity with Java coding and scripting
