Rogue Community College is Hiring a Pharmacy Technician Instructor (Adjunct Faculty) Near White, OR

Responsible for implementation of assigned Pharmacy Technician courses: providing direct supervision and assessing progress of assigned students in a classroom setting. Participate in program faculty meetings. Maintain college standards regarding professionalism, record keeping and instruction within the Allied Health Occupations department and the Pharmacy Tech faculty team. 

Supervision Received 

The Allied Health Occupations director, with guidance from the dean, is responsible for carrying out the evaluation of instructors under procedures developed by the vice president. The department director confers with the dean in decisions regarding instructor workload, professional growth, retention, and department staffing levels.

  1. Prepare, distribute and utilize instructional support materials including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devices as appropriate.
  2. Submit syllabus for each course in approved format to program Training Services Coordinator a minimum of 2 weeks prior to term start date.
  3. Determine appropriate textbooks and supplementary instructional materials.
  4. Incorporate, as pedagogically appropriate, current technology in classroom and distance learning.
  5. Provide a positive role model for students, especially in the areas of advocacy, respect for self and others, collegiality, ethical behavior, and strong work ethic (including responsibility, dependability, and accountability).
  6. Provide individual performance review, constructive feedback and recommendations to students as needed. 
  7. Understand Institutional, Program and Course Learning Outcomes specific to this program and individual courses. Develop assessments that will measure student achievement in each of these outcomes.
  8. Assist Allied Health Director with ordering of supplies, if necessary.
  9. Attend and participate in required department faculty meetings. 
  10. Attend adjunct faculty training, including but not limited to: Instruction related to Blackboard delivery, Outcomes and Assessment methods, and professional development.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Specific Duties:

 Instruction of one or more Pharmacy Tech courses, including both online and in-person didactic courses:

  • Infection Control
  • Pharmacy Technician I
  • Pharmacy Technician II
  • Intro to Pharmacology for Pharmacy Technicians
  • Law and Ethical Issues for Pharmacy Technicians

Education: Current Oregon state pharmacy licensure and current CPR/First AID card are required. HIPPA and OSHA standards training required. Current industry certification or educational equivalent is required.

Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.

Experience: At least 5 years of experience in the pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician. At least two years of recent full-time industry related employment experience (with supervision) required. Broad clinical and teaching experience within the specified industry preferred. Clinical experience that includes training and instruction to students preferred.

Knowledge of: Computer applications for online learning through Rogue Community College's Learning Management System (Blackboard), grading, communication and learning, including, but not limited to, word processing, use of the Internet, spreadsheets and database management, multi-media presentations; curriculum development; the community colleges mission, role in higher education, and student population; and sensitivity to a diverse student body and its needs; of the role of accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act; of a variety of pedagogical methods, including lecture, group activity, discussion and individual instruction to accommodate a variety of learning styles. Knowledge of clinical and medical office safety including: knowledge of safe chemical handling, storage, and disposal procedures; safe handling and disposal of sharps equipment; how to locate and use MSDS sheets; proper medical safety and infectious disease handling and disposal; OSHA and HIPAA training. 

Ability to: Ability to safely demonstrate, model, and instruct students using proper procedures and protocol. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with respect to diverse students, staff, agencies and community members; ability and willingness to work with non-traditional adult learners as well as teens; demonstrate experience or potential for innovation and creativity in both the classroom and related educational duties, including the use of new technologies such as online instruction; demonstrate a commitment to professional standards and growth. Pass a criminal background check.

Licenses: Current Oregon state pharmacy licensure. For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver's License and proof of an acceptable driving record at the time of hire is are required. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver's license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)).

Manual dexterity and coordination are required for more than half of the daily work period (about 60%), which is spent in a classroom setting, utilizing equipment; and sitting while operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, telephones, and other standard office equipment. On feet 90% of time. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires some mobility including the ability to move materials weighing up to 35 pounds on a regular basis. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is primarily working indoors in a classroom environment. The noise level in the work environment is typical of most classroom environments with infrequent interruptions and background noises. Lighting is adequate.

This is a part-time Adjunct Faculty position in the Allied Health Occupations department. Compensation is based on the 23-24 Adjunct Faculty Salary Schedule
