Rogers Behavioral Health is Hiring a Doctoral Psychology Intern Salaried Near Oconomowoc, WI

The primary function of the Pre-doctoral Psychology Intern is to provide clinical services to the patients of the Child & Adolescent Day Treatment Program, Child & Adolescent Centers, and the Obsessive-Compulsive disorder Center, under the supervision f the attending psychologist. Duties may include evaluation of patients for admission to the Day Treatment Program, completion of diagnostic interviews and assessments, participation in interdisciplinary treatment meetings, creation and monitoring of measurable treatment goals, development of interventions appropriate for a diagnosis, collaboration with other staff in the coordination of care, and the provision of direct patient services.
NOTE: The intern is involved in a minimum of two thousand (2,000) hours of supervised training in a planned program geared to providing training for the intern in psychology as a psychologist.

Job Duties & Responsibilities - Under the direction and evaluation of the director of clinical training:

Oversee patient care provided in the clinical unit or service track.

  • Work as a member of a multidisciplinary team including: psychiatrists, social workers, psychologists, psychiatric nurses, and education specialists.
  • Interact with the multidisciplinary team to learn the status of patient's care.
  • Interact with admitting staff and review with program director regarding admissions and discharges into the program.
  • Provide direct services, both individual and group.
  • Complete required medical record documentation and correspondence in an accurate and timely manner; monitor the same with staff.
  • Promote department services by giving internal and external presentations about the department in conjunction with the Marketing department, as appropriate.
  • Communicate with medical staff to promote positive relations and to provide quality services.
  • Assist with milieu management. Model appropriate interventions for staff. Assist staff in developing appropriate behavior management plans as needed.
  • Participate in program development.

Support and implement the clinical program in conjunction with the medical director(s) and managers of other departments.

  • Promote efficient referrals for Child & Adolescent Services throughout the organization.
  • Suggest program revisions based upon patient and staff feedback as well as Performance Improvement data.
  • Participate in Hospital committees to promote positive problem-solving and improve services.
  • Use knowledge of patient rights to act as patient advocate and to respond to patient grievances.
  • Participate in resource evaluation and equipment maintenance.
  • Monitor staff members in the use of resources and equipment to maintain a cost-effective, efficient, safe, and productive work environment.

Participate in weekly supervisory meetings conducted by a designated licensed psychologist.
Participate in weekly treatment team staffing (minimum of four (4) per week).

  • Develop treatment plans.
  • Assist staff in developing appropriate and effective interventions.

Demonstrate understanding of JCAHO and other regulatory agency compliance regulations.

  • Involve self in the learning and application of standards relevant to the child & Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program.
  • Participate in in-services/seminars and other meetings to increase involvement and awareness of regulations.
  • Involve self in the education of other disciplines regarding child & adolescent partial hospitalization regulations.
  • Participate in the Performance Improvement (PI) program.
  • Gain understanding of the PI process.
  • Apply the PI model to department functions.
  • Participate in and/or create PI teams that lead to improvement in own and other Hospital areas.
  • Educate and involve employees to the Hospital's and partial hospitalization's PI monitoring and activities.

Participate in Hospital committees, meetings, and team projects.

  • Demonstrate punctuality and preparedness.
  • Demonstrate effective chairperson skills, if applicable.
  • Good organizational skills with agenda and minute preparation.
  • Ability to facilitate a meeting to keep it on track.
  • Contribute in a positive, solution-focused manner.

Duties as Pre-doctoral Intern.

  • Conduct evaluations to determine patient status and appropriateness for admission to the Child & Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program in compliance with applicable state, federal and Joint Commission requirements.
  • Review admissions with the program director and facilitate admission order process.
  • Direct patient care and coordinate services with physicians and other healthcare providers as necessary meet patients' treatment needs.
  • Provide individual therapy for designated clients in the program.
  • Provide effective therapy for patients within the program.
  • Participate in individual clinical supervision with the supervising psychologist on a weekly basis.
  • Complete psychiatric evaluations on admissions to the program. Review evaluations with the attending psychologist and assure co-signature on all reports.
  • Assess patients as necessary for transfer to higher level of care. Review case with attending psychologist. Assist clinical staff in the transfer process.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed, when appropriate.
  • Comply with the hospital's policies and procedures, including human resources, infection control, and employee health policies and programs.
  • Project a professional image by wearing appropriate, professional attire.

Additional Job Description:

Education/Training Requirements:

  • Master degree in psychology or related field required. Must have completed supervised clinical experience. Must be currently enrolled in a doctoral program in psychology and must have completed all relevant didactic and practicum work.
  • Successful completion of graduate-level coursework in child/adolescent psychopathology and psychotherapy is preferred.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare provider CPR certification or American Red Cross Professional Rescue is required within thirty (30) days of date of hire. Annual re-certification is required.
  • Formal training in management of the aggressive patient (SAFE/Self-Defense) is required within sixty (60) days of date of hire. Annual re-certification is required.

Special Requirements:

  • Must attend a minimum of two (2) hours per week of scheduled, face-to-face individual supervision.
  • Must attend a minimum of four (4) hours per week of learning activities (case conferences involving cases in which the intern has participated, seminars dealing with clinical issues, co-therapy with staff person including discussion, group supervision and individual supervision).
  • Must be capable of interacting effectively with a variety of people as part of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Must attend required educational program and supervisory sessions as directed.
  • Must maintain liability insurance of $1 Million / $3 Million coverage through an independent insurer or graduate school program.
