Financial Controller responsibilities include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger, and preparing month-end closing procedures. A successful Financial Controller combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts.

JOB SUMMARY:

As a Financial Controller, you will be responsible for maintaining the Company’s accounting records as assigned and ensuring that financial transactions are recorded accurately and in the proper period by GAAP and by assigned Company deadlines. You will be responsible for assisting the Senior Leadership Team with the daily, monthly, and year-end operations of the Accounting and Finance department, including budget review and analysis. This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive list of activities, duties, or responsibilities the employee must perform. YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

Tasks may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and variance analysis.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop and manage the company's budgeting process, collaborating with department heads to establish financial goals and objectives. Provide ongoing analysis and forecasting to support decision-making.
  • Cost Allocation: You will allocate direct and indirect costs to specific jobs. Direct costs are expenses directly attributable to a particular job, such as labor, materials, and subcontractor costs. Indirect costs are shared expenses, like overhead, that must be allocated to jobs based on a predetermined methodology.
  • Cash Management: Manage cash flow and liquidity to support operational needs and investment opportunities. Monitor banking activities and ensure proper account reconciliation
  • Internal Controls: Establish and maintain internal control policies and procedures to ensure the integrity of financial data and compliance with regulations. Implement improvements to streamline processes and enhance efficiency.
  • Lead initiatives to analyze and enhance existing processes for increased efficiency and resource optimization without compromising accuracy.
  • Audit Management: Coordinate external audits and ensure compliance with audit requirements. Address any audit findings and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly
  • books.
  • Tax Compliance: Oversee tax planning and compliance activities, including preparing and filing tax returns. Stay current with changes in tax laws and regulations to minimize tax liabilities.
  • Documentation and Reporting: It is essential to maintain accurate records and documentation related to job costs. You will prepare financial reports, including job cost summaries, profit and loss statements for individual jobs, and other relevant financial information. These reports will be used by management for decision-making and by auditors during financial audits.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate financial information clearly and concisely to senior management, the board of directors, and other stakeholders. Collaborate cross-functionally to support organizational objectives.
  • Compliance and Regulations: It is crucial to ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal controls. You will stay updated on accounting regulations and guidelines to ensure accurate financial reporting and adherence to legal requirements.
  • Ad Hoc Projects: Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by senior management, providing financial expertise and insights to support business objectives.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE MOST SUCCESSFUL:

  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
  • Effective leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and present financial information to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems, with advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
  • Highly proficient with QuickBooks accounting software
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, prioritize competing demands and adapt to changing business needs.
  • A minimum of 2 years of progressive experience in financial management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role, is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven track record of driving process improvements, implementing internal controls, and managing audits.

Preferred

  • Certified Public Accounting (CPA) designation preferred but not required
