Description

Our well known and respected Family Practice office has an immediate opening for a full-time Experienced Medical Referral Specialist at our Lakewood location.

The Medical Referral Specialist is an important member our Patient Care Team which consists of the Provider, Medical Assistant, Receptionist, and other staff members.

The Care Team is responsible for the delivery of "patient centered" care and works to achieve the patient's healthcare and self-management goals, as well as quality improvement goals as set forth by the practice.

The Medical Referral Specialist provides friendly, efficient and thorough service to ensure all referral requests are processed in a timely and efficient manner to best serve our patients needs.

We are looking for an individual with a cheerful disposition who really enjoys working independently but also being an integral part of the smooth operation of our practice.

BILINGUAL candidates (English / Spanish) are highly desirable.

POSITION OVERVIEW :

Monday - Friday, generally 8 : 00am-5 : 00pm with possible minor fluctuations.

Requirements

REFERRAL SPECIALIST JOB REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES INCLUDE :

  • High School diploma
  • Minimum of one year of experience
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish) is highly desirable
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at once, switching from one to another without loss of efficiency, composure or organization
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with individuals from all socio-economic backgrounds
  • Ability to follow through with details
  • Basic clerical skills and computer proficiency
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Ability to sort and file materials by alphabetic or numeric system
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in stressful situations
  • Self-motivation
  • Ability to work well independently AND as part of a team
  • Familiarity with NextGen EMR is a definite plus

REFERRAL SPECIALIST JOB DUTIES INCLUDE :

  • Obtain insurance authorization for all outpatient diagnostic studies and referral to Specialists
  • Schedule all diagnostic studies and Specialist appointments or make arrangements for the patient to schedule
  • Provide the patient with any special instructions and preps for diagnostic studies ordered
  • Help patients contact their insurance company to determine their benefits for high cost procedures

Follow up with the patient as needed.

  • Answer referral related questions from patients, providers and other provider offices
  • Order all DME equipment through the proper insurance authorized companies
  • Document all orders processed within the electronic health record
  • Provide back-up support to front office staff as needed
