Senior Strategic Communications Manager, Strategy and Events

Overview

RMI is seeking an experienced Strategic Communications & Events Senior Manager with excellent project management skills to lead marketing and communications planning and execution for RMI's Strategy team. This role will also coordinate, manage, and execute communications plans for select RMI events and presence at global conferences.

Your passion for RMI's mission will serve you well in telling the story of an accelerating energy transition through multi-channel communications, creative thought leadership, and global conferences. Working across our strategic insights and communications functions, you will be a key connector in our global organization.

You will be a strong team player and manager who works as an integral part of the Strategy team while coordinating and collaborating with multiple other RMI programs, our central Influence Team, and external partners. As the Strategic Communications & Events Manager, you will use data-driven insights about our audiences and their motivations to provide communications and marketing guidance to our sectoral experts, develop and execute strategic campaigns, and coordinate communications and events efforts with other RMI programs to inform and influence key stakeholders and decision makers. This role requires someone with experience at the intersection of events and communications and will report to the Strategic Communications Director of Strategy and Planning.

Your Key Roles and Responsibilities:

Communications and marketing planning and execution for RMI's core strategic functions: strategic insights, strategic planning and growth, energy equity, and collaborative practices

  • Provide guidance to senior leaders to position, frame, and develop narratives from an audience-centric perspective
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver audience-centric communications plans and marketing campaigns that leverage diverse channels, including earned media, social/digital, web/owned content, partnerships, and events.
  • Assist senior leaders and spokespeople in thought leadership, including social media, media opportunities and speaking engagements, and support Strategic Communications Director in elevating thought leadership tactics across the organization.

Coordination and execution of strategic programmatic events for RMI's diverse audiences, both owned and externally-hosted where strategic presence is essential

  • Work closely with the Events and Conferences Manager to advise on and execute promotion and production of RMI's webinars and hosted events, using tools such as Monday.com, Salesforce, and Pardot.
  • Support the creation and execution of a coherent, centralized event strategy across RMI, developing a consistent and clear narrative about RMI's efforts to advance the energy transition through owned events.
  • Own the cross-organization coordination and communications planning for select global conferences where RMI shows up, such as New York Climate Week and Davos. Proactively track conference opportunities where RMI is not already attending and pitch speakers.
  • In partnership with the Events and Conferences Manager, develop and maintain a speakers bureau for new website (in development) featuring select thought leaders.

Internal and External Coordination

  • Collaborate with and leverage RMI in-house communications capabilities (i.e., editorial, design, web, traditional and social media) and third-party agencies.
  • Coordinate communications efforts with other RMI programs and manage internal processes to efficiently deliver relevant thought leadership, stories, and insights to targeted audiences.

Manage Execution

  • Proactively leverage news-making moments, milestones, outcomes, and impacts to drive awareness and interest in the program with target audiences, influencers, donors, policymakers, and decision-makers.
  • Develop in-depth understanding of audience(s) and familiarity of technical content for owned impact areas.
  • Develop and report against metrics of success and track activities against outcomes and impact.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing, or related field and/or appropriate combination of education and significant experience.
  • 5 years' experience in marketing and communications disciplines, preferably in the energy, international policy, and/or climate fields, with clear experience in developing strategies and leading successful global communications campaigns.
  • Must have experience working on conferences and event planning.
  • Ability to manage multiple relationships and complex projects.
  • Tight project and task management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience juggling conflicting priorities is ideal.
  • Interest in climate change, climate policy and action, or the broader energy transition.
  • Experience marketing to diverse channels, including marginalized communities most affected by climate change.
  • Relevant Graduate Degree.

Compensation:

RMI compensates based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary for this role is in between $107,000 to $132,000.You would also have an additional 10% bonus target!
