HARRISON FAMILY YMCA

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Bus Drivers operate school buses that transport students on established routes according to a time schedule, while complying with all traffic regulations. Guidelines and procedures are set forth by the Childcare Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Drives YMCA vehicle(s) that they are approved to operate safely and professionally.
• Complies with all traffic rules and regulations.
• Performs pre- and post-bus inspection activities to ensure proper operating conditions, adherence to prescribed Department of Transportation standards, and compliance with proper safety standards.
• Provides daily transportation for students to and from destinations, to include field trips and special events.
• Demonstrates proficiency in handling and maneuvering designated vehicle.
• Maintains bus evacuation plan.
• Transports students according to established routes.
• Always monitors daily school bus activities to ensure proper student conduct, and adherence to appropriate disciplinary controls.
• Maintains attendance records, seating charts, disciplinary documentation, and updated student information.
• Maintains safe driver designation and applicable physical and dexterity standards.
• Ensures the safe loading and unloading of students to and from destinations.
• Performs routine cleaning and bus maintenance activities.
• Conducts re-fueling activities, to include maintaining assigned fuel use logs.
• Reports any perceived or potential school bus defects in a time efficient manner to Childcare Office.
• Attends and participates in staff trainings and meetings
• Supports and embodies the core values of the Harrison Family YMCA.
• All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The Harrison Family YMCA will incur the cost of the CDL course and licensing.

1. Minimum age of 18.
2. Certifications required within 30 days of hire: American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid; the following training provided by the Y: Appropriate Touch, Child Sexual Abuse Prevention, Managing your Risk of Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens, Aquatics Safety at the Pool, Hazard Communication for Employees, Social Media & Digital, Communications, Safe Lifting, Harassment Prevention, Preventing Member and Guest Slips, Trips, and Falls, Risk Management 101
3. Valid NC Driver’s License and/or CDL License.
4. Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
5. Effective communication and teaching techniques.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Must be able to remain alert.
2. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
3. Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
4. Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and
   loud situations.
5. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
