Description

Rockhurst University is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic higher education professional to fill the position of Director of International Students Services. This role takes the lead for all policy and compliance issues related to international students including working closely with all related federal government agencies along with instituting programs to enhance and support the international student experience. This role is responsible for designing and providing programing, advising, immigration information and orientation to F1 international students. The Director works closely with Enrollment Management and relevant academic support units to ensure that newly accepted students have a successful transition to Rockhurst. The role develops, implements, and manages international student orientation, provides direct support to individual students as they matriculate through their college experience. The director develops and communicates critical information to the international student population in support of their persistence and success. Reporting to the Vice President of Student Development.

Primary duties of the position include the following:

  • Serves as Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) through Department of Homeland Security (DHS), updates and maintains Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) according to Department of Homeland Security regulations along with maintaining the institutional approval to host F-1 international students.
  • Act as primary liaison with government agencies including DHS, U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Consular Affairs Offices.
  • Resolves issues related to international student (F1) processes and outline additional resources to develop solutions.
  • Advise, facilitate application, and track students in CPT and OPT experiences.
  • Review and analyze submitted immigration and related application documents and special applicant requests to ensure accuracy, authentication, completeness, and adherence to regulations.
  • Assist the division of Student Development in developing and implementing strategies to enhance student engagement, retention, persistence, and overall success targeting international students.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to address student concerns, providing guidance and solutions to academic,

personal, and social challenges.

  • Stay current with trends and best practices in student affairs/development and higher education to continuously improve the student experience.
  • Monitor operational budgets and allocation of expenditures related to international student programs.
  • Provide training for faculty and staff across campus to enable them to work effectively with international students.
  • Develop, implement, and manage an International Student Peer mentor program.
  • Work collaboratively with others on campus to implement academic support for international students.
  • Create sustainable transportation services for international students to include services like airport, bank, MDV, social security office, cellphone stores, and bank runs.
  • Implement programs and services to support international students during university breaks and closures.
  • Organize on campus and off campus social events and community builders for international students.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.

Requirements for this position:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field, Master's preferred.
  • Due to Homeland Security restrictions, must be either a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
  • Two years of project/administrative or related experience in an educational institution required, preferably with responsibilities related to International Student Services.
  • Understanding of the needs of a diverse student population, including minority and international students.
  • Possess proven ability to effectively work with and sensitivity to a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students.
  • Expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.).
  • Experience with programs and strategies to support equitable outcomes for international students which may include first-generation, non-traditional, minoritized, and marginalized communities.
  • Fluency in or familiarity with at least one language in addition to English and experience with travel or living abroad preferred.
