Description
Rockhurst University is seeking a motivated and excited higher education professional to fill the position of Associate Director of Residence Life. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Student Development, this position is responsible for the programmatic branch of Residence Life impacting, transforming, and educating all students in residential communities. They should serve as a resource for all residential students. Additionally, this position supervises the overall operation of an assigned residential area, including organizational planning and community development. This position collaborates with other university administrators to positively impact retention of residential students, and to manage student crisis situations. This position will coordinate closely with Resident Directors and Area Coordinator in the overall development of the residence hall program through active leadership.
Primary duties of the position include the following:
  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and facilitate all departmental recruitment, hiring, training, evaluation, retention, and development of a talented and diverse residence life staff.
  • Adjunct faculty instructor of the RA class LDV2500.
  • Support the International Student Affairs office by helping to assist internationals students with their I-20, and F-1 Visa compliance, CPT and OPT experiences while serving as a DSO (Designated School Official) for the institution.
  • Support and assist the Associate Vice President of Student Development with auxiliary and housing operations by overseeing the housing contracting process, room assignments, billing process and accuracy checks and balances, oversee daily operations of residential facilities to ensure well-maintained and safe housing facilities.
  • Actively engage in and support Residence Life functions within the assigned residential community (first year or upper-class students) such as supervision and on call crisis response and serve in the absence of a Residence Director/Area Coordinator.
  • Spearhead retention efforts of residential students and SSN follow up within the department while serving on the University retention committee and as a member of Student Success Network team.
  • Direct supervision of a minimum of two full time Residence Directors, and indirect supervision of an Area Coordinator and 20 student paraprofessional staff.
  • Plan, implement, and facilitate departmental program assessment and evaluation activities.
  • Responsible for All Residential Life and Auxiliary operations in the absence of the Associate Vice President of Student Development as well as all other duties assigned.
Requirements for this position:
  • Master's degree in Counseling, College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or a related field of student development.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in Residence Life or a related field while supervising full time professionals.
  • Experience in event/programming planning and management.
  • Thorough knowledge of housing and residence life best practices and trends.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, coordinating, and implementing residential education programmatic initiatives and training.
  • Demonstrated experience in student leadership development and advising students.
  • Supervisory experience with demonstrated staff management and leadership skills preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of students, staff, and external partners.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Ability to work periodic evening, overnight and weekend hours and to travel for occasional conferences and recruitment trips.
  • Ability to manage on-call responsibilities.
