Description

The Applications Development Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining business applications and systems integrations for the University. The manager position provides technical leadership and system design for a team of developers that support our internal portal and other core business environments.

This position is responsible for developing applications and automated processes to streamline or reduce manual tasks for the university business units and the Computer Services organization. The Applications Development Manager fills a key leadership role in the Computer Services organization and contributes to departmental decisions regarding policies, procedures, security, data integrity and technologies university wide.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Participate in all aspects of software development activities, including design, coding, code review, unit testing, bug fixing, and operations.
  • Collect business requirements to develop and support systems integrations between university business applications.
  • Evaluate information flows and integrations to ensure optimal configuration.
  • Responsible for providing technical leadership to all projects within the assigned group.
  • Manages developers and the completion of projects, resources, capacity, and deadlines.
  • Management of cloud-based and in-house technology platforms.
  • Monitor and assess staff training requirements on technology related issues and organize training.
  • Maintaining currency and patching of business applications
  • Ensure data integrity though all developed integration processes and provide automated reporting of data issues when found.
  • Works with other groups within the Computer Services department to ensure the solutions are consistent with department and university policies.
  • Research, evaluate and recommend new and emerging development technologies to meet present and future needs of the university.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge

  • Strong experience in architecture, design, and implementation of enterprise applications and systems.
  • Ability to collaborate with other departments to formulate application and system integration strategies/roadmaps.
  • Ability to work with all management levels and influence enterprise technology decisions while being able to motivate and inspire others to accomplish desired goals.
  • Experience managing cloud-based business and technical solutions.
  • Maintains technology fluency in order to recommend and design integration solutions.
  • Systems thinking: the ability to see how parts interact with the whole.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, with the ability to explain complex technical issues in a way that non-technical people may understand.
  • Knowledge of IT governance and operations.
  • Self-directed, self-starter, and motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in MIS, Computer Science, or High School diploma and equivalent work experience.

Experience

  • Candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of related experience with an emphasis on application development, systems administration, and systems integration of internally developed or vendor applications.
  • Direct managerial experience is preferred.
  • Solid technical background with familiarity or hands-on experience data quality, systems governance, and related technologies.
  • Proven experience coordinating complex projects, processes, and team members in the higher education information technology sector.
  • Understanding of Windows Server Administration preferred

Occasional exposure to job hazards, resulting in some injury, lost time, or threatening to one’s personal health.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work performed in an environment requiring occasional exposure to weather extremes, fumes, odors, and noise. High level of visual effort with continuous exposure to highly detailed work requiring substantial concentration. High level of physical effort such as pushing, pulling, bending, lifting, and carrying heavy objects. (Over 50 lbs.)
