    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Assist in the coordination and technical assistance necessary to support schools in planning and implementing effective parent involvement activities to improve student academic achievement and school performance. Work to strengthen the role of parents by increasing opportunities for meaningful participation in the education of their children. Work with community partners to refine existing and foster new collaborative relationships with outside organizations to enhance student learning and provide growth opportunities for students and staff.
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ensure that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives and parameters found in the Board’s strategic plan 2. Carry out such additional duties as required or as conditions necessitate 3. Use personal vehicle to conduct business as necessary 4. Maintain security of confidential information 5. Prioritize, work under pressure, and meet deadlines 6. Present and facilitate meetings attended by diverse groups of stakeholders within schools and communities 7. Communicate with tact, patience, and courtesy 8. Build organizational capacity for parent and community engagement 9. Promote the importance of parent involvement with school personnel (e.g. principal, teachers, and building staff) for the purpose of providing effective methods and tools for working with parents as equal partners 10.Communicate district resources (Parent Portal, Let’s Talk, Peachjar and other resources) to parents to improve student successes 11.Identify, initiate, establish and maintain effective relationships 12.Suggest, schedule, and implement new community-based programs, partnerships, and other engagement initiatives 13.Create and maintain database of community organizations, businesses, and volunteers in support of parent and community engagement 14.Create opportunities for parent and community collaboration 15.Collaborate with principals and PTO’s to develop initiatives that foster familyfriendly school climates and help promote family events in schools or other district initiatives that benefit students 16.Provide reports and logs on activities to include but not limited to parent and community contacts, DPAC meetings, parent focus groups, visits to schools 17.Maintain and collect accurate records and documentation such as fliers, newsletters, postcards, agendas, meeting minutes, sign-up sheets of all activities conducted by the Parent and Community Engagement Department 18.Assist supervisor in organizing district-wide activities 19.Train student ambassadors to give tours to potential parents, community members and organizations
    NON- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job 2. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate’s Degree or High School Diploma with experience in public relations, education, or social work and two years’ experience in community outreach, parent education, and event organization preferred.
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: ? Excellent organizational, interpersonal, listening, verbal and written communication skills ? Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality on sensitive issues ? Ability to interact effectively with management, and adapt to changes in organizational responsibilities ? Knowledge of how to access district and community resources ? Ability to work successfully with diverse parents and parent groups ? Maintain high energy level and demonstrate positive outlook ? Demonstrate solid understanding of and experience with diverse populations ? Self-starter and team builder and player. ? Well-versed in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access ? Must have valid Illinois driver’s license
    LENGTH OF WORK: 10 Months WORKING CONDITIONS: Moderate in-district travel as well as intermittent in-state and out-of-state travel. May be required to work evenings and weekends.
    PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: Demonstrate continuous improvement in key Parent and Community Engagement Department measures and as determined by the Chief of Communications, Parent and Community Engagement, and Student Assignment Center Officer
