Rocketship Public Schools is Hiring a School Psychologist Near Washington, DC

Our Integrated Special Education (ISE) team serves students across all disabilities (mild, moderate, and severe) through an innovative approach to special education that includes co-teaching and deep partnership with our general education partners and other instructional staff. To best serve our Rocketeers with severe needs, we have developed a Specialized Inclusion Program (SIP) that ensures our students can receive the necessary supports and services, while still spending a majority of their time in a general education setting. Through these innovative approaches, Rocketship has been able to realize significant academic gains for Rocketeers with disabilities.

Position Summary: 

Rocketship School Psychologists are responsible for providing both direct and indirect support to students, families, and staff members in order to ensure high quality programming for students with disabilities. 

At Rocketship Public Schools, our psychs serve a small number of elementary schools. A typical day includes attending pre-referral meetings, initial/triennial assessment, behavior consultation, direct and indirect support of students receiving social emotional intervention, and supporting school leaders in implementing MTSS systems. Our schools utilize a meaningful inclusion model for special education, so an integral part of the day-to-day work is supporting teams in creating plans that allow all students, regardless of disability, to spend the majority of their day in the general education classroom.

Essential Functions

  • Lead psycho-educational and formal behavior assessments; write quality, compliant assessment reports. 
  • Attend IEP meetings; present assessment findings to the team.
  • Assist in the implementation of assessment recommendations as needed. 
  • Participate in the pre-referral process and provide consultation to school teams regarding intervention supports for struggling students. 
  • Work with parents to build knowledge of disability and inclusive support for students with disabilities.
  • Assist in providing consultation and advisement to administrators, teachers, and parents regarding the general and special educational programs as appropriate. 
  • Assist in coordinating, communicating and seeking consultation with community agencies as appropriate.
  • Maintain a compliant practice. 
  • Some campuses may require consultation, collaboration, creation, and implementation of 504 plans
  • Some campuses may require additional consultation around social emotional and behavioral systems and structures
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested by the Associate Director, School Psychology . 
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in School Psychology
  • Bilingual, Spanish (preferred) 
  • Experience working in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (highly preferred) 
  • Experience working with elementary-age students (preferred) 
  • Experience working with students with a range of disabilities (learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, autism, etc.) (highly preferred)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Commitment to Rocketship’s special education inclusion model and overall mission to close the achievement gap within our lifetime. 
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment Ability to be flexible and adaptive in a work environment that is still evolving. 
  • Perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks: maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, other school personnel, meet schedule and compliance deadlines. 
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license (or applicable state equivalent): willingness to provide own transportation in conduct of work assignments as you will be required to travel from site to site to work with students and faculty at all sites.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally climb ladders. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
