Position Summary:
Under the direction of the District Lead Nurse, the Floating RN works in a collaborative relationship with the school administration, other nurses, and staff. The RN will float from school to school as needed and provide essential health care functions such as examinations first aid, and help maintain a healthy environment for the school. The RN will also be a substitute for school nurses during absences and practice school nursing in accordance with the State of Illinois Nurse Practice Act and professional standards of nursing practices.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Participates in medical examinations and reviews findings to evaluate the health status of pupils and progress of the program
Assists at registration (2 days) at the beginning of the school year
Follows health protocols and procedures
Cooperates with school personnel in identifying and meeting the social, emotional, and physical needs of school children.
Provides first-aid and documents actions taken
Collaborates with other school personnel to develop services for students, and maintains positive and productive relationships with colleagues.
Counsels students in good health habits
Assists in a program for the care of disabled children
Keeps student's health a priority
Will float from school to school on an as-needed basis
Assist Lead nurse as needed with contact tracing and staff COVID paperwork
Assist with flu/Covid vaccine clinics, hearing and vision screenings, and exclusions
Assist building nurses if required due to COVID mitigations or outbreaks
Assist with in-house physical and immunization clinics
504 and Medical reviews
Required Education:
An Associate's degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Required Qualifications:
2-years' experience performing nursing duties (preferably with children-teens)
Certifications, Licenses:
Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License
Hearing and Vision certified or willing to obtain Hearing and Vision certification
(The District will provide the necessary training. Employee must obtain within the first 12-months)
In order to obtain the IEP Designee the employee must be a BSN and then obtain the IEP Designee within the first 12-months of hire.
Preferred License:
Illinois School Nurse Certification (i.e. Professional Educators License (PEL)
