Rochester School District is Hiring a Rochester-Physical Therapist (2024-25) Near Tumwater, WA

This is a part-time (0.50 FTE) position. 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct supervision of physical therapy assistants in accordance with the law.
  • Develops, implements and coordinates the physical therapy program within the school program, including departmental procedures and goals.
  • Evaluates students using appropriate evaluation tools, skilled professional observation and supplementary information from other agencies and records.
  • Demonstrates a high level of independence and professional discretion under the general supervision.
  • Interprets assessment findings and appropriately convey information to parents and school teams.
  • Participates with the school team to develop Individualized Education Programs and Section 504 Plans.
  • Develops and implements intervention strategies.
  • Develops individual physical management plans as needed for individual students for daily classroom routines and trains staff in safe implementation.
  • Plans for transition from school to community, preparing student to function independent from therapy service when targeted outcomes are achieved.
  • Evaluates and reports on student progress at regular intervals.
  • Communicates and consults with school staff, parents, administrators, physicians, community and other professionals.
  • Serves as resource to families, school teams, staff and administration on the educational impacts of disabilities that affect students physically.
  • Collaborates with community-based therapists and other healthcare providers for effective coordination of service.
  • Assesses needs and recommends assistive technology necessary for function at school.
  • Contributes to planning safe transportation of students with disabilities.
  • Provides consultation regarding emergency evacuation of students with disabilities.
  • Participates in budget planning and policy development when requested.
  • Procures, maintains and inventories physical therapy equipment, materials and supplies.

  • Works collaboratively in a professional learning community with teachers, support staff, and others as appropriate, in addressing the needs of students, developing effective practices, and developing and implementing best practices.
  • Actively participates in faculty or department meetings, assist building efforts to plan, budget, implement, and evaluate the school's program and to do related work as required. In carrying out these responsibilities, follows school policy and procedures, standard practices, and approved curriculum, and will actively and positively support the school vision.
  • Establishes a professional growth plan and annually reviews the plan and progress with the administrator.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate (ESA ) School Physical Therapist certificate
  • Bachelor's degree, or higher, in physical therapy from an accredited college or university
  • Must have successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities, or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the influence of disabilities, socio-cultural and socioeconomic factors on a student's ability to participate in post-secondary education and vocations
  • Ability to effectively communicate with families, students, and staff verbally and in writing.
  • Commitment to collaboration, teaming, and effectiveness in working within a professional learning community
  • Evidence of continuous professional learning and a commitment to participate in professional growth opportunities and self reflection on professional practice
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to work cooperatively with administration and staff
  • Ability to analyze risk, problem solve effectively and demonstrate a high level of professional judgment when recommending and providing services

This position is not eligible for medical, dental, vision and basic life insurance, as administered by the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB). Employees are eligible to enroll in the Department of Retirements Systems TERS plan, as well as the Deferred Compensation Program. Employees receive paid leave annually.
