As a Teaching and Learning Consultant, the position, reporting to the Executive Director of the CTL, provides support to faculty, instructional staff and teaching assistants in their development needs. The role requires the ability to research, design, develop and deliver training program needs that place RIT at the center of teaching and learning excellence. As a consultant, the role provides leadership and expertise on contemporary teaching and learning theory and practice.
Responsibilities:
  • Research, design and facilitate opportunities for faculty, instructional staff and teaching assistants to learn evidence-based, student-centered, inclusive teaching and learning practices that promote teaching excellence and to support the process of learning.
  • Consult with faculty on effective course design and delivery principles, strategies and techniques, the use of academic technologies across all modalities including in-person, blended, hybrid and online and assist in supporting CTL grant programs.
  • Assist faculty in diagnosing issues related to teaching and learning, and devise strategies to increase effectiveness. Consultation may include observation and feedback on teaching activities.
  • Research, design, plan and manage faculty, instructional staff and teaching assistants' development events related to teaching and learning.
  • Advance a culture of inclusion, equity, experimentation, dialogue, and reflection about teaching and learning.
  • Participate in pilots/trials of new modes and models of teaching and learning, including application of academic technology to learning.
  • Track usage of services, supported resources and the outcomes of pilot/trial activities, to inform continuous improvement of processes and resources for teaching and learning.

Department/College Description
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelors degree in Instructional Design or Instructional Technology, or a related field
  • Three or more years experience in instructional design and development, and academic technology
  • Three or more years experience providing direct service and/or consulting to others
  • At least two years experience managing projects and events
  • At least one year experience facilitating learning events
Skills:
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • Solid understanding of best practices in multi-mode education delivery models, and technology tools
  • Proficiency with emerging technologies and their appropriate application to teaching and learning
  • Ability to serve as a teaching and learning advocate to internal and external clients
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks concurrently
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment
  • Exemplary interpersonal, project management and written and verbal communication skills
  • Well-developed faculty service skills, proven ability to develop / sustain productive faculty relationships
  • Enthusiastic, innovative and forward-thinking
  • Experience in development, delivery and evaluation of workshops and individual faculty consultation.
