Detailed Job Description
RIT is looking for a Support Technician IV to join the Information Technology Services (ITS) team where we are always on to something amazing!
This position is primarily responsible for desktop support for computers, mobile devices, software, and peripherals for RIT students, faculty, and staff.
Responsibilities include
  • Provides support for core computing & IT functions for Finance and Administration-owned devices.
  • Responsible for some lab operations and technical support
  • Advises and recommends hardware and software required to support individual needs, in alignment with documented standards
  • Responsible for department security administration and ensures adherence to university security standards
  • Performs installation of new and existing computer systems
  • Manages, installs, and maintains new & existing hardware and software and their respective inventory
  • Continuously improves technical knowledge of operating system and network environments across multiple platforms
  • Trains faculty, staff and students as necessary on new software and technologies
  • Participate in division-wide projects and longer-term initiatives
  • May perform other duties as needed.
Level Scope
Problems and issues faced are unclear, difficult, span a range of areas, and may require understanding of broader set of issues. Significant creativity and ingenuity are expected to recommend solutions to complex problems and new challenges. Work consists of leading daily operations within an area that has direct impact on departmental results. Mastery knowledge of the work and how it affects the organization. Work is performed under little or no guidance and assigned in the form of broad objectives. Serves as a team lead responsible for training and reviewing work of lower level employees. Delegate tasks to other team members and be responsible for the review of work product.
Department/College Description
Information and Technology Services (ITS) is committed to serving the university's information technology needs. We provide development, maintenance, and support for centralized administrative applications, technology infrastructure, and client computing, as well as support and advice for a wide variety of other information technology needs.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience:
  • High School/GED
  • 8 years of related information technology support experience (e.g. hardware, software, operating system troubleshooting)
Knowledge/Skills
  • Extensive knowledge of operating systems such as Windows OS, OSX. Knowledge of Linux and Unix operating systems a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge within a Microsoft Windows Active Directory environment and using group policy objects
  • Experienced in administering Windows endpoints in SCCM; Working knowledge of administering Mac endpoints.
  • Troubleshooting hardware issues and replacing parts such as hard drives, memory, motherboards and processors.
  • Ability to successful troubleshoot computer hardware, software, operating system, and peripheral issues
  • Experience supporting multiple versions of Windows and/or Macintosh desktop operating systems
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
  • Skill in customer service and communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
