The Program Director will be responsible for the leadership, management and supervision of all aspects of the CSTEP program; including: Grant oversight, proposal writing, budget management and reporting, plan, direct, and coordinate programs to further student development and academic support needs and hiring and supervising of staff. The director reports directly to the Assistant Vice President for Student Access and Success.
Student Support:
  • Serves as primary point of contact for 75-80 RIT-CSTEP students and mentor to 25 RIT-CSTEP students
  • Coordinate the student selection process for CSTEP Students
  • Leads the organization and implementation of student activities, including the tutoring/mentoring program, summer preparatory program, and professional development opportunities (workshops, research, and conferences)
  • Leads weekly RIT-CSTEP organizational meetings
  • Directs and maintains student tracking database to ensure student academic success
Administrative:
Establish and maintain relationships with New York State Education Department and RIT. Represents and networks on behalf of RIT-CSTEP; initiates and maintains collaborative relationships with other C/STEP programs, area schools, RIT departments, and other RIT minority and/or STEM serving initiatives
  • Responsible for completing and submitting proposals, biannual and annual reports according to New York State Education Department timelines
  • Create and monitor ongoing assessment in order to analyze and ensure the program's effectiveness
  • Coordinates faculty mentoring efforts and tutoring program, supervises Assistant Director and coordinates the work of student tutors
  • Oversees overall administration of CSTEP programming and leads assessment of program outcomes and goals to ensure that program objectives are met
Marketing:
  • Work with the Division of Diversity & Inclusion Marketing & Communications team to develops marketing materials for CSTEP. This includes all media, websites, brochures, etc.
  • Leads recruitment of students into RIT-CSTEP and oversees review of applications to RIT-CSTEP
Fiscal Management:
  • Plan, monitor, and manage the CSTEP annual budget. Work collaboratively with the DDI Director of Finance and RIT SPA representative to ensure budgeting, purchasing, and travel procedures are in line with expectations of grantor and RIT.
  • Manages and implements in/external funding opportunities to supplement RIT-CSTEP funds in support of expected program outcomes

RITs CSTEP office works to support historically underrepresented and/or economically disadvantaged undergraduate and graduate students towards their educational and vocational goals. The focus of the program is to equalize the playing field allowing students the opportunity to participate to the fullest in the college experience. With the purpose to increase the number of students from under-represented groups who are pursuing professional licensure and careers in mathematics, science, technology and health-related fields.
This is a grant funded 12 month, full-time position.

  • Masters degree in related field and 5-7 years experience serving first generation, underrepresented, low income or veteran populations, overseeing and creating college student access and success initiatives, supervisory experience, grant writing experience, knowledge of NYS and/or department of education grant regulations.
  • Experience in a higher education setting with budget, data, and personnel management.
  • STEM research experience and/or graduate school application process experience necessary.
  • Experience in developing and implementing programs; experience in conducting workshops.

  • Successful candidates must demonstrate leadership skills, high level of interpersonal skills, knowledge of student development theory, and an ability to maintain a culture of professional excellence and focus on student success. Organizational and leadership achievements will be considered strongly, in addition to the requisite qualifications.
