Please note-this position requires the ability to work some occasional evening hours and weekend hours.
  • Provide leadership to ensure the implementation of clinical counseling and psychological services which adhere to the highest professional standards and best practices for college counseling services, including providing and overseeing the delivery of clinical supervision, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, professional consultation, outreach programming, a training program and administration.
  • Contribute to creating a culture of care and success for all university students from enrollment to commencement by providing leadership, oversight, and commitment to a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative student counseling unit.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the principles and practices of overall college health, including supporting integrated clinical care, working in partnership with physicians, medical providers, clinicians, disability services, case management and health promotion colleagues; participating in a model of team-oriented leadership, working in partnership with fellow directors in Wellness to address multi-faceted challenges; and responding to the needs of various external constituents.
  • Provide financial and administrative management, understanding the nature of a complex mental health clinic, which includes fees, scheduling, and management of wait times.
  • Plan and prepare operational reports and analysis that identify student trends and recommend appropriate programs and solutions through on-going quality improvement practices.
  • Maintain an active professional identity and monitor best practices at other institutions and integrate best practices as appropriate.
  • Promote the services of the Counseling and Psychological Services to the broader RIT community, identifying barriers to communicating the need for seeking help, creating avenues for increased awareness and utilization, and advising campus leaders on mental health-related issues.
  • Serve as an effective spokesperson for Counseling and Psychological Services with press and other external constituencies.
  • Serve on various divisional and university task forces and committees as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Department/College Description
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • Ph.D./Psy.D. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology
  • Licensed as a psychologist in NYS or licensed as a psychologist in another state and able to obtain NYS licensure one year from date of hire.
  • Maintain active membership in the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors (AUCCCD) professional organization.
Experience:
  • 8 years of post-graduate practicing after the receipt of doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D. from an APA-accredited doctoral program) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology.
  • Demonstrated managerial leadership experience, including a minimum of 3 years of direct supervisory responsibilities.
Skills:
  • A track record of collaboration and innovation in addressing the mental health needs of a college-aged population.
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills, supervision, and leadership skills that will allow effective interaction with students, parents, faculty, staff, medical, mental health, other professionals, and those concerned with the mental health issues of RIT students.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and onboard a team of highly effective clinical staff.
  • Experience in
    • Emergency/crisis intervention and with clients who present with complex and severe psychopathology. Experience providing assessment, treatment, and consultation services to this population.
    • A progressively responsible administrative role that requires oversight of the planning, evaluation, and directing the day to day administration of a complex mental health service operation and mental health service staff, while using various resources to accomplish long-term and short-term goals for the institution.
    • Policy development.
    • Supervision of administrative and clinical staff.
    • Overseeing caseloads for clinical staff (establishing minimum requirements for clinical contacts, establishing growth/maintenance of clinical caseloads, etc).
    • Forging strong working relationships with other higher education professionals. Ability to develop and maintain positive professional relationships with appropriate referral sources for students.
  • Clinical experience providing assessment and intervention in settings providing mental health services to varied clinical populations, such as college counseling centers, outpatient mental health facilities, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, or medical center/hospital settings.
  • Knowledge of integrative brief solution-focused models of psychotherapy, familiarity with college populations, including students of color, LGBTQ students, international students, and first-generation students, or previous experience in a college counseling center setting.
  • Familiarity with and experience in utilizing evidence-based practices in clinical assessment and intervention required. Experience in administering and interpreting psychological assessments, inventories and reports related to psychopathology and cognitive and learning disorders
  • Understanding of, and compliance with, the ethical and legal issues involved in the provision of clinical services.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and experience providing multi-culturally sensitive and evidence-based services to clients from diverse backgrounds and identities.
  • Documented computer/technological competence using office productivity, word processing, database, email, electronic record keeping and other enterprise software systems
  • Willingness to become familiar with Deaf culture and ASL.
