Detailed Job Description
The Associate Director for MCAS: Student Success and Engagement is directly responsible for:
  • MCAS student success road map (the Center's success plan for closing achievement gaps)
  • Responsible for execution of the MCAS Advocates program
  • Responsible for the leadership, coordination and execution of the DDI Summer Experience.
  • Supervises the Assistant Director for MCAS: Student Development
  • Serves as the back-up for the MCAS Director
This position is supervised by the Director of the Center and is essential to the mission of the Multicultural Center and its goal of building community, trust, and academic success of RIT's under-represented student populations.
Responsible for the development and management of the MCAS student success roadmap.
  • Research and develop new support mechanisms for traditionally underrepresented students.
  • Assist in the development of a structured academic and social support program during the academic year including the coordination of the mentoring services offered in the Center.
    • Assess the coaching program on an annual basis. Help to ensure accuracy and relevance of program. Ensure tracking mechanism for student persistence through coaching.
    • Ensure accurate training and onboarding of MCAS coaches and any potential external MCAS coaches.
    • Responsible for recruitment of MCAS student mentors and mentees-approximately 25 upper class mentors for ~25 underclass students.
    • Responsible for leading casing meetings for the center and develop outcomes and active plans for student success.
    • Work with Assistant Director of Assessment on outcomes and measurables of the coaching and mentoring programs and how to properly administer annual assessments.
    • Plan and execute student developmental programming throughout the academic year.
    • Outreach and meet regularly with students to discuss needs, monitor academic progress, and assist with the resolution of academic and personal challenges.
    • Assist in the tracking of persistence rates of underrepresented students.
    • Work collaboratively with campus members and relevant offices to develop and implement programs and resources on retaining students while eliminating achievement gaps.
    • Honors liaison for MCAS and will actively refer qualified MCAS students into the Honors program.
    • Develop and oversee the process for welcoming any new students interested in MCAS.
    • Liaison to RESLife and manage relationship with Unity House and explore potential and various housing formats based on needs and deficiencies around AALANA students.
Responsible for the leadership, coordination and execution of the DDI Summer Experience.
  • Assist with planning and coordination of the DDI SE program and all related activities including:
    • Lead and coordinate DDI SE planning committee
    • Coordinate program internal and external communications
    • Oversee community outreach related to the DDI SE program
    • Coordinate interactions/relationships between staff, clients, administrators and all other program stakeholders
  • Monitor implementation of program policies and practices
  • Work to keep program on schedule, within stated budgets and functioning smoothly
  • Support program growth and development as necessary
  • Manage staff work assignments, workloads and work schedules
  • Oversee the program budget, including tracking billing, payments and other financial transactions
  • Schedule and organize program-related meetings and events
  • Oversee the use of technology for program operations, such as video conferencing technology, presentation software and other communications technologies (if program is virtual)
  • Create and maintain program records, reports, presentations and proposals
  • Facilitate positive relations between the program team, the public, the media, other departments, and all other involved parties.
  • Manage marketing and communications (media relations, social media)
Responsible for leading and continual development of the MCAS Advocates Program
  • Maintain and manage the recruitment, training, and retention of faculty/staff AND student advocates.
  • Provide support to the advocates, manage email distribution lists, programs, Campusgroups and communications.
  • Build a strong network among the advocates and MCAS.
  • Develop assessment tools to report on the advocates program concluding with an annual report.
  • Manage outreach to students that are brought in through the advocate program.
  • Develop engagement process and pipeline to manage relationship of students entering MCAS through the Advocates program.
  • Develop meaningful engagement opportunities for fac./staff advocates with students to build strong relationships and communities within their academic units.
  • Collaborate with other Division of Diversity and Inclusion professionals to ensure true collaboration across the division and the advocate program (ex. CSTEP, HEOP, LSAMP/McNair, MARCOM, Diversity Education, Diversity Theater, etc.)
  • Expand Advocate program to include non-academic departments (ex. Financial Aid, Career and Co-Op, Student Financial Services, Center for Physiological Services).
Provide professional-level assistance and back-up support for the Director of MCAS (as needed and determined by the Director)
  • Assist in managing the Center in the absence of the Director
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested by supervisor.

The Division of Diversity & Inclusion works collaboratively with academic and administrative units to provide a holistic range of services that enhance access and success for historically underrepresented students, faculty and staff, support education and scholarship, and ensure a welcoming, inclusive, vibrant and accessible environment for everyone.
Building a community centered on trust, the Multicultural Center for Academic Success (MCAS) will strengthen the academic success of RITs AALANA (African, Latin, and Native American) student population.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in multicultural education, higher education administration, intercultural communication, student affairs administration or related filed.
  • 3-5 years experience working in a diverse community and/or environment. Preferably in multicultural education.
  • Experienced communicator with proven ability to converse and interact with a wide variety of stakeholders effectively.
  • Experience in designing and developing curriculum through as student coaching model for academic success.
  • Prior work experience working with AALANA, first generation, low-income, and underrepresented students. Preferably in a higher education setting.
Specialized Skills:
  • Successful candidates must demonstrate leadership skills, high level of interpersonal skills, knowledge of student development theory, and an ability to maintain a culture of professional excellence and focus on student success. Organizational and leadership achievements will be considered strongly, in addition to the requisite qualifications.
  • Ability to consider alternative and diverse perspectives, to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, remain poised under all circumstances, and to interact effectively with people in a positive manner that engenders confidence and trust.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
  • Ability to assess student needs, value a high degree of student contact, and interact interpersonally and effectively with diverse individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently perform duties and responsibilities with attention to detail and support for organizational policies, as well as the ability to anticipate demands/pressures of assignments and adjust accordingly
  • Professional maturity that will foster a professional mentoring and advising relationship with students
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with computers and basic software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of college students
