Detailed Job Description
The Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement's mission is to prepare RIT students to exercise leadership as members of a rapidly changing global community. In support of our mission, we (a) build and maintain meaningful connections between the RIT campus and the surrounding community; (b) equip students with the 21st century skills they need to positively impact communities and organizations; and (c) cultivate awareness of complex local, national, and global issues.
Reporting to the Director of the Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement in the Division of Student Affairs, this position exercises broad discretion in developing, implementing, and evaluating complex leadership education, development, and training programs for students.
Responsibilities:
  • Live our values, embrace diverse perspectives, and nurture the RIT community to remain a great place to work for all.
  • Working with the Director, develop sustainable structure(s) for large-scale, campus wide leadership education, development, and training programs in support of the University's goal to graduate students recognized for their global experience, mastery of intercultural competencies, and engagement with and leadership in globally relevant problems. Cultivate on and off campus partnerships in support of this work.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate educationally appropriate and theoretically grounded leadership education, development, and training opportunities for students including, but not limited to, individual workshops, workshop series, on-line training opportunities, retreats, and conferences. Support the ongoing development of for-credit leadership development courses in partnership with academic departments.
  • Serve as primary resource for students regarding leadership development and education generally. Create, facilitate, and evaluate specialized leadership training programs for various constituent groups who are interested in further developing the leadership capacities of their teams.
  • Oversee all marketing and PR efforts in the office. Maintain office website, manage social media channels, and support the office's on-going work to effectively use data to tell our story. Supervise marketing team and represent office on relevant Division-wide committees.
  • Coordinate recruitment, selection, hiring, training, and evaluation of undergraduate student workers, leaders and graduate assistants in the office. Supervise graduate and undergraduate student staff and leaders.
  • Manage logistics associated with the planning and execution of annual recognition programs supported by the office including the Leadership Awards and Scholarship program.

Required Minimum Qualifications
Required Experience:
  • Three to five (3-5) years of professional work experience in the field developing, administering, and evaluating small and large-scale leadership education, development, and training programs for students and student organizations; facilitating small and large groups in a leadership context; selecting, training, and supervising student staff; and planning managing events.
  • Knowledge of student development and leadership development theories and pedagogies
  • Knowledge of "promising" or "high impact" practices with regard to leadership education, development, and training.
  • Knowledge of assessment generally as well as a proven ability to use data to inform practice and to tell a story;
  • Competence using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and electronic calendaring software.
  • Computer competence using software and enterprise systems appropriate for the complexities of the role and its functions.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and electronic communications skills, including the ability to convey complex information in accessible terms to diverse or multicultural audiences.
  • Ability to manage and maintain confidential and private information; uses confidential, sensitive and/or private records and information, protects information appropriately.
  • Ability to establish, build and maintain effective working relationships based on respect, empathy and honesty with diverse groups and individuals.
