JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: District Director of Athletics and Activities QUALIFICATIONS: Although preferred, this position does not require a teaching or administrative certificate. REPORTS TO: Superintendent TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a full-time position and there will be no other option for any other position such as coach. Salary as established by the Board of Education EVALUATION: Annually as established by Board policy
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide recommendations for the organization of the overall program of extra-curricular programs for the district.
Provide support to all personnel assigned to the athletic and activities programs in accordance with established procedures of the school district; work to resolve any conflicts between coaches/sponsors and parents or athletes.
Establish and conduct athletic/activity staff meetings.
Coordinate and act as liaison to all booster groups.
Foster good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the district’s extra-curricular program.
Make recommendations to the District Office regarding the extra-curricular budget, including specific extra-curricular budget line items.
Approve all purchase requests from the building level activity accounts that relate to extra-curricular activities
Requisition and maintain inventory of program supplies and equipment.
Recommend the physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each extra-curricular activity; verify each participant’s eligibility.
Assist with the development of appropriate rules, regulations, and policies for participants.
Provide recommendations to the District Office regarding the insurance program covering school athletes and assume responsibility for all reports and claims.
Maintain records of the results of junior and senior high athletic and activity contests; maintain a record file of all award winners, stating the date, type of award, including athletic scholarships.
Plan and coordinate the supervision of annual recognition programs for school athletes and activities participants.
Responsible for the provision and appropriate maintenance of all extra-curricular equipment necessary to insure freedom from exposure to risk of personal injury or damage to property for all participants in the district’s extra-curricular program.
Prepare and submit, according to established deadlines, all required and requested local, state, regional, and national forms and reports.
Assist the building administration in the selection and assignment of athletic coaches, sponsors and staff members.
Uphold the rules and regulations adopted by the IESA and IHSA.
Notify coaches of conference and rules interpretation meetings.
Organize, direct, and participate in the supervision of all extra-curricular tournaments/festivals, for both middle school and high school programs, including all written correspondence.
Coordinate ticket distribution plan for state tournament series.
Ensure the availability of ticket takers and scorekeepers for all contests.
Provide requests for arranging for transportation to and from district events for all student participants in the district’s extra-curricular program.
Responsible for contracting umpires and referees for all athletic events at the middle school and high school; notify correct personnel when games are cancelled; send correspondence regarding game data changes, etc.
Approve all official hiring/scheduling within the district; confer with coaches to determine qualified officials.
Responsible for the supervision of students and spectators participating in district extra-curricular programs and contests at or away from schools.
Coordinate all extra-curricular activities for scheduling, auditorium and gym usage.
Carry out activities related to conference and county events.
Annually coordinate the district-wide activities calendar, including pertinent elementary activities.
Coordinate and supervise the updating of the district website as it relates to the district calendar and extra-curricular events and programs.
Responsible for the evaluation of district coaches and sponsors.
Responsible for programs for home games and tournaments.
Communicate with sponsors/coaches prior to the start of a season and throughout the season about students who are not eligible to participate for any reason.
Complete other assignments, including the supervision of activities as directed by the Superintendent.
