Rochester Beacon Academy is Hiring a Social Studies Teacher Near Rochester, MN

Rochester Beacon Academy (RBA) is a small charter school in Rochester, MN that places a strong emphasis on providing individualized attention to students. Our school has small class sizes, allowing teachers to provide students with focused and personalized instruction.

RBA also has a special focus on serving students with special education needs, with over 90% of the student body receiving such services. The administration and staff are dedicated to providing these students with the support and resources they need to succeed in school and beyond.

With a caring and compassionate culture, teachers and staff are committed to creating a safe, joyful and inclusive learning environment.

In addition, RBA uses trauma-informed practices and Restorative Practices to support and respect students in ways that acknowledge and address the impact of past traumatic experiences. These practices help create a safe and supportive learning environment that promotes emotional healing and academic success.

Your job description will include:

Teach Social Studies Curriculum: Implement a comprehensive Social Studies curriculum that is aligned with state and national standards, and that promotes inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Use a variety of teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of all students and to help them achieve academic success.

Create a Safe Environment: Create a safe and supportive learning environment that is sensitive to the needs of students who may have experienced trauma or adversity. Use trauma-informed practices to foster trust, build relationships, and promote positive behaviors.

Assessment and Evaluation: Assess and evaluate student progress regularly using a variety of measures, such as tests, quizzes, projects, and observations. Use assessment data to adjust instruction and provide targeted interventions for students who need additional support.

Collaborate with Colleagues: Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement school-wide policies and practices that promote trauma-informed teaching and learning. Work closely with other teachers and support staff to provide a comprehensive and coordinated approach to student learning and well-being.

Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development to deepen your knowledge and skills in trauma-informed practices, science curriculum, and instructional strategies. Participate in school-based professional learning communities to share best practices and learn from others.

Parental and Community Engagement: Engage parents and families in the learning process by communicating regularly about student progress, providing resources and support, and involving them in school events and activities.
