Disease Area Partner / Medical Manager

The Opportunity:

The Disease Area Partner is a key role that brings our Medical Scientific Affairs (MSA) strategy to life for clinicians and patients. You bring a clinical lens to everything you do. You are the primary interface between the Disease Area Network and the scientific liaison field teams, both crafting the tools needed by full-time field personnel to effectively deliver knowledge to patients/clinicians/lab partners, and meeting with key clinical stakeholders in
person, whether at medical conferences or other touchpoints of high impact as required. You will work hand in hand with the technical minded Scientific Partners to develop the clinical focus for our integrated strategic medical
plan for a given disease area leveraging external stakeholder generated insights/needs to ensure faster access with better outcomes for more patients. You will also facilitate and develop the relationships with key members of
the medical/scientific community and patient advocacy organizations serving as a consistent liaison for these high value stakeholders. You may be called on by the Strategic Healthcare Partnerships team to share your insights,
experiences, expertise, and connections to drive strategies to engage with key stakeholders in a deeper way.
While you may bring specialized and in-depth experience within a particular disease area to the team, you are also comfortable expanding that knowledge into adjacent areas as required as our priorities evolve. This role requires constant learning, the regular use of originality and ingenuity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Bring clinical insights to all squad conversations

  • Works within the cross functional core team, in close collaboration with the Scientific Partners and other MSA stakeholders to develop the medical components of the overall local medical strategy for a given disease area (and related assets/services) leveraging external stakeholder generated insights/needs to ensure fast access with better outcomes for more patients.

  • Leverages the broader medical network of capabilities (eg. other SLs, field medical leads, and others) to execute medical plans with excellence

The medical strategy plan includes:

  • EXTERNAL INSIGHTS: designs advisory boards and other external insights activities to gather external stakeholder feedback and input

  • EVIDENCE GENERATION AND PUBLICATION: identifies and prioritizes local evidence gaps and designs evidence solutions across life cycle to meet diverse stakeholder needs (including but not limited to, regulatory, access, laboratory and clinical stakeholders);

  • EDUCATION: understands external stakeholder educational and knowledge gaps, designs and develops relevant educational tools, materials and programs that have a high impact for patient care, while creating efficiencies for Roche MSA, reducing the need for travel and onsite delivery.

  • SCIENTIFIC EXCHANGE: Provides strategic guidance and works collaboratively to define the local field plan for field partners and scientific liaisons, or other relevant field based roles that takes into account the external stakeholder generated needs/insights.

  • Working with the Medical Scientific Associates, create a tool box of educational tools for the Disease Area Network so that no one is developing “one off” work. This may be traditional slide decks but you will also need to use less traditional educational tools (podcasts, social media)

  • Develop a robust network outside of the company that can be strategically tapped for speakers, advocacy work, medical insights

  • Review outputs of internal partners for medical accuracy and patient centricity

  • The role involves both office work and significant field effort. You will be required to regularly speak to your scientific liaison colleagues, DANL, and other partners to prioritize where your efforts will have the biggest impact.

  • Identifies opportunities for cross-functional cooperation to maximize utilization of resources.

  • Acts as a coach and mentor for colleagues and peers to develop skills, expertise

  • Supports the creation of an inspiring team environment with agile, open, and inclusive culture

  • Must maintain knowledge of applicable research and literature

  • May respond to unsolicited requests for information about unapproved products or uses, or off-label information.

Who you are:

  • Masters Level Degree in Science 5 years previously relevant related experience

  • OR Bachelors Level Degree in Science 7 years relevant work experience

  • OR Doctorate Level Degree 3 years of relevant work experience

  • Must be willing and available to work 32 hours per week, Monday through Thursday.

Preferred qualifications:

  • MD or PharmaD

  • Clinical Practice and/or Research in the area of Diabetes and related comorbidities such as cardiovascular diseases and chronic kidney disease.

  • Knowledge in study designs and evidence of publications and/or conference presentations

  • Healthcare professional designation an asset

  • Comfort with tools that extend education to virtual engagement is a plus (podcasts, social media)

  • Ability to think strategically - you will create the tools used by your full time field colleagues

  • Ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships with Physicians, Nurses, Laboratory and other healthcare Professionals

  • Ability to lead, direct, influence and empower multi-discipline teams and individuals in a matrixed organization

  • Ability to understand, interpret and present a wide range of scientific and medical topics

  • Ability to successfully interface with senior management (within and external to company)

  • Capacity to manage conflict

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to prioritize work

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Strong judgment and decision making skills

  • Ability to develop and maintain deep relationships with thought leaders and customers

  • Ability to quantify metrics

This is a remote position open to candidates anywhere in the United States, with a preference for those based in the Indianapolis region.

Relocation assistance is not provided for this role.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Indianapolis, IN is $123,700 - $229,700. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
