Stevenson teaches students how to succeed and prepares them to meet the challenges of post-secondary education and everyday life.

Stevenson students are intelligent, social, resourceful, and creative. Many come from prestigious, competitive independent and public schools where they have demonstrated significant achievement in areas of particular interest. They may be struggling with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) adjustment problems, anxiety, depression, learning differences, or interpersonal difficulties.

Position Summary

The School-Based Educational Psychologist is an overtime exempt full-time 12-month position. The School-Based Educational Psychologist is part of the School’s clinical team, but responsibilities are both academic and clinical. The School-Based Educational Psychologist provides a combination of direct and indirect support to students and families. The Educational Psychologist applies expertise in education, mental health, learning, and behavior to advocate for students’ needs within the School and surrounding system. The Educational Psychologist reports to the Clinical Director and will work closely with the Head of School.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Conduct classroom observations of students.
  • Meet and facilitate conversations with parents and teachers to discuss, develop, and implement plans related to learning, behavioral, familial, and social strengths and challenges.
  • Complete documentation required by the Committee on Special Education for IEP meetings and participate in IEP meetings. In meetings, report on students’ academic and social-emotional functioning and make recommendations about placement.
  • Work with attorneys and legal advocates representing students’ families to prepare for and participate in Impartial Hearings.
  • Work in collaboration with clinicians, faculty, families, attorneys and advocates, and the CSE.
  • Direct intervention and counseling to students on demand and in crisis situations. Empathically listen to student concerns, assess problems, and plan goals and actions.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain appropriate and accurate records on students who use clinical services.
  • Participate in admissions decisions, help review applications for enrollment, and interview students and parents.
  • Other ad hoc duties and responsibilities as needed.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • Commitment to Stevenson's mission.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding clinical intervention, consultation, and assessment skills.
  • Doctoral degree in Educational Psychology or School Psychology required.
  • Clinical experience with kids and adolescents required, including use of evidence-based interventions.
  • Must have a relevant New York License or be working toward New York Licensure.
  • Experience conducting and interpreting learner testing.
  • Experience collaborating with schools required. Experience collaborating with families and legal systems preferred.
  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information and records.
  • Humor, patience, poise, and an ability to purposefully balance structure and flexibility.

Annual Salary: $80,000 - $100,000
