Job Location: Schenectady JCC - Schenectady, NY
Position Type: Seasonal
Salary Range: $30.00 - $50.00 Hourly

Description

The Swim Instructor will ensure the safety of patrons of the aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies. They will also teach swimmers how to swim and be safe around water. Using the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program. They will motivate swimmers, and instruct swimmers to use proper techniques. Must have weekend & evening availability. 

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Maintain a high level of professionalism
  • Will be rescue ready (JCC swimsuit, uniform, whistle, & personal protective equipment)
  • Demonstrate effective time management
  • Remain vigilant and act quickly in making rescues and rendering aid
  • Enforce water safety standards (rules) and departmental regulations
  • Actively participate in all in-service trainings and drills
  • Exhibits excellent customer service
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, which may include monitoring pool chlorine levels
  • Assist supervisors as requested
  • Provide a positive personal and social development for swimmers
  • To develop and improve the technical and physical skills of swimming
  • Provide a fun and enjoyable environment for swimmers
  • Maintains effective communication with participants and their parents

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard; First Aid, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer
  • Current WSI Certified 
  • Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness
  • Have an understanding of EAP procedures

Physical Demands:

  • Good physical condition and strength.
  • Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Able to stand on feet for long periods of time.
  • Able to squat and bend at waist
