Title: Audiologist
Reports To: Executive Director

Roanoke Valley Speech and Hearing Center (RVSHC) is a nonprofit speech and hearing clinic dedicated to helping individuals in the Roanoke Valley. For 63 years our mission remains to improve quality of life by helping children and adults communicate effectively.

As an Audiologist at RVSHC, you’ll be working closely with one other Audiologist and one Audiology Assistant. Responsibilities include providing services in the prevention, diagnosis, and evidenced-based treatment of hearing and balance disorders for people of all ages. The Audiologist will provide professional and personalized services to minimize the negative impact of these disorders, leading to improved outcomes and quality of life.

Specific duties:

  • Administer hearing evaluations on both children and adults, dispense hearing aids and related accessories for both children and adults, provide minor hearing aid repairs, and reviews and signs off on reports provided by the Hearing Conservationist.
  • Works closely with the Hearing Conservationist program as it relates to Industrial Hearing provided with the mobile test unit
  • Accountability to practice within an established professional code of ethics and scope of practice within federal, state, and institutional policies and regulations
  • Collaborate on interdisciplinary teams to provide person-centered care that aims to achieve optimal outcomes for the patient
  • Exhibit cultural competence and compassion to show care and concern for patients, encourage involvement of individuals and families in the plan of care, and understand the impact of cultural and linguistic variables
  • Advocates for the rights of individuals who need audiology services, participates in interprofessional teaming, and promote the value of audiology services
  • Exhibits effective communication skills that include using multiple forms of communication, and communicating on behalf of patients as a referral agent or as part of an interprofessional collaborative team

Knowledge and Skills required:

  • Licensed by the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology as an Audiologist
  • Licensed as a Hearing Aid Specialist by the state of Virginia
  • Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology and membership in ASHA (American Speech & Hearing Association); prefer CCC-A, but open to CCC
  • Maintain CEU’s as required by the profession

Roanoke Valley Speech and Hearing Center strives to provide the highest level of quality diagnostic and clinical care to its clients. The Audiologist will:

  • Maintain the highest level of patient care, comfort and attention.
  • Receive and respond to complaints in a professional and compassionate manner, reporting all problems to the Executive Director.
  • Treat all client records and information in a strictly confidential manner.
  • Work closely with Assistant Director and Executive Director in reviewing and updating policies as they relate to the Audiology program.
  • Must follow guidelines as outlined in Patient Care Policy, Infection Control Policy, Emergency Care Policy and Disaster Preparedness Plan

Hours: Full-time, Monday – Thursday (8:00 am – 5:30 pm) and Fridays (8:00 am – 12 noon)
