Compensation
Salary based on experience and education level per Roane County salary schedule. Expected range: $37,222 - $71,101.
Health and basic life insurance provided through West Virginia's Public Employees Insurance Agency. Health insurance premiums, which vary by plan and coverage level, split 80/20 between employer and employee. Basic life insurance provided at no cost to the employee.
Position requires enrollment in the Teachers Retirement System through West Virginia Consolidated Public Retirement Board. New enrollees contribute 6% of gross salary with a matching contribution by the Board of 7.5%. Vestment requires 10 years of qualified service. Withdraw of employee contributions available upon leaving employment with a WV county board of education if deisred.
16.5 annual days of personal leave provided, pro-rated for those hired after the start of the current employment term. Up to 4 days may be used each school year without cause pursuant to state and local policies.
Pro-rated local attendance incentive (up to $500) provided for those who use fewer than 6 days of personal leave each school year.
Additional benefits at the employee's expense.
Qualifications
Meet qualifications as outlined in West Virginia Code 18A-4-7a.
Meet minimum standards for certification as set forth by the West Virginia Board of Education in Minimum Standards for Licensure of West Virginia School Personnel.
Endorsement in Multi-Categorical Special Education required. Endorsement in an additional special education area(s) preferred.
Earned Master’s Degree in Education required. Earned Master’s Degree in an area directly related to Special Education preferred.
Exhibit knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of the special education teacher and the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as demonstrated in a personnel interview, which will be weighed heavily in the search/selection process.
Show ability to communicate effectively with students, school personnel, parents, and community members.
Show ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others.
Show ability to motivate others and lead them to become highly effective educators.
Possess good evaluations and / or recommendations from educational instructors, professional associates, employers, and/or supervisors.
Responsibilities
Provides support and assistance in implementing programming of special education and related services to principals, teachers, and staff.
Models effective teaching practices with special educators as needed and facilities the dissemination of best practices regarding curriculum and instructional methodology to include observing classrooms to identify educator support needs.
Coordinates the delivery of technical assistance to special educators as directed for district and school support.
Supports assigned special educators in utilizing data sources to make informed educational decisions for students.
Assists in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data needed for planning student supports, reporting, determining service delivery, making student programming decisions, and providing professional development to special educators.
Promotes the use of research-based practices in the identification, instruction, and assessment of students with disabilities.
Provides supports to educators when appropriate in the development and implementation of quality IEPs, compliance metrics and documentation, IEP meetings, and data collection with instructional practices.
Communicates areas of strength as well as areas of need to principals and other supervisors to improve educational outmodes for students with disabilities.
Assists special educators as appropriate in the preparation for IEP team meetings and attends IEP meetings as needed.
Assists principals and special educators with developing school-level and classroom schedules.
Supports the implementation of required federal, state, and local policies and procedures affecting students with disabilities.
Perform assigned duties as assigned by the director and/or Superintendent.
