Roads to Success is Hiring a SYEP - Instructors Near New York, NY

PROGRAM DESIGN: Roads to Success (RTS) facilitates a variety of youth programs including after-school, summer camps, retreats, conferences and summer employment opportunities reaching thousands of young people throughout NYC each year. RTS emphasizes the youth development practice of the Circle of Courage in all our programs; creating an environment of Belonging, where young people can build their Independence, find and develop their Mastery skill, and practice Generosity in their communities. At the core of our programs are staff training strategies that enable our young professionals to develop extraordinarily meaningful relationships with the young people in their care who we call Our Future Leaders because that is what they all are. 

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Instructors part of SYEP at RTS is responsible for supporting the social, emotional, academic and professional skills development of participants between the ages 14 and 15.

ORGANIZATIONAL ROLE: 

Supervisor: Program Director

Supervises: Participants between the ages of 14 and 15 

Hours: 20 hours a week March thru June; 35 hours a week and July thru August 

Compensation: $23- $25 per hour based on experience 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Establishing and enforcing rules of behavior for participants during group sessions 

  • Preparing lessons and projects to support target learning objectives 

  • Communicating feedback to support growth within curriculum 

  • Adapting teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning styles of students 

  • Encouraging students to explore learning opportunities and their area of interest

  • Working with students one-on-one when they need extra help or attention 

  • Creative, fun and adaptive learning environment 

  • Communicate with the Program Director regarding any conflicts with worksite assignments 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred. 

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in benefits administration, social services, or a related field. 

  • Deep understanding of public benefit programs. 

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. 

  • Proficiency in data management and reporting systems. 

  • Experience in crisis intervention and support. 

WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Work takes place in one or more school buildings, which may require climbing stairs. 

  • Typical job hours are 9 am -5 pm, Monday - Friday, and events will take place during occasional nights and weekends. 

  • Travel via public transportation or car may be required throughout NYC.

  • Ability to manage program participants and nurture professional growth and development 

  • Efficiently manage different operational systems 

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, ensuring that the program remains connected and relevant.

  • Represent the program, its participants, staff, and families at various levels, advocating for their needs and the program's success.
