With the evolution of work culture presenting growing demand for new, flexible workspace solutions, The Malin occupies a unique position in the market, providing a custom-designed, high-touch, and hospitality-driven offering with options for companies and entrepreneurs alike. We opened our flagship location in SoHo at 32 Mercer Street in November 2021 and have since rapidly expanded to Williamsburg, West Village, and Nashville (Wedgewood Houston, South Gulch), with more sites slated to open by the end of this year, including Austin, TX and NoMad.

As we continue to facilitate the future of work and grow The Malin brand across North America, we are looking for a seasoned, highly effective, and ambitious individual to join our team.

Position Summary:

As a Junior Designer at The Malin, you will play a crucial role in supporting the design team with creative and technical tasks. Your responsibilities will include assisting in design concepts, developing design documentation, managing materials, and ensuring the smooth execution of design projects. Reporting directly to the Creative Director, you will contribute to the overall aesthetic and functional quality of our projects, maintaining high standards of design excellence and organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Assistance: Support senior designers in creating design concepts and developing detailed design documentation.
  • Drafting: Create floor plans and designs for potential venues using AutoCAD, with additional proficiency in Revit, Vray, and Rhino considered a bonus.
  • Materials Management: Maintain, order, and file material samples, manage the materials library, and organize the office effectively.
  • Project Documentation: Handle files and documentation for project orders and contracts, ensuring accuracy and organization.
  • Vendor Communication: Liaise effectively with vendors, source and research materials, and manage vendor relationships.
  • Shopping and Styling: Assist in preparing shopping lists, accompany senior designers on shopping trips, and aid the Creative Director in styling various locations, including potential involvement in photoshoot styling.
  • Meetings and Presentations: Contribute to presentations and attend meetings as required, supporting the design team with excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Site Visits: Participate in occasional travel for job site visits and overseeing installations, ensuring project requirements are met.

These qualifications and skills are essential for success in the role of Junior Designer at The Malin, enabling you to effectively support the design team, manage materials and documentation, communicate with vendors, and contribute to the overall design process. Qualifications:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drafting and documentation.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Completed or currently pursuing an Associates or Bachelor's program in Interior Design or Architecture.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, with additional skills in Revit, Vray, and/or Rhino considered a bonus.
  • Skilled in using Google Workspace and Adobe Creative Suites, particularly InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Previous experience in a design setting is a plus.
