Position Details

Job Title:
Mobile (Vehicle) Patrol Unarmed Security Officer

Employment Status: Regular Full-Time (Non-Exempt) & Part-Time

Salary Range: Starting at $15/hr

Benefits: Medical & Dental Coverage, paid training, company-provided uniform package, opportunities for advancement, overtime available.

Shifts Available:2045-0445 (8hrs) & 2045-0245 (6hrs)

Location: Multiple locations with various public and private sector clients throughout Richmond, VA and surrounding areas

Position Summary and Location

To enhance the safety & security of both the Monroe Park and MCV campuses by serving as a highly visible crime deterrent and resource for the VCU community. Officers will be given a predetermined route that will be driven continuously throughout the shift. Routes will include specific checkpoints that officers will utilize to engage with the VCU community outside of the vehicle. Mobile Patrol Officers will work in tandem with the VCU PD Patrol Units and attend their nightly briefings at VCUPD.

Job Duties and Physical Requirements

  • Ability to interact cordially and communicate with a diverse community.
  • Serve as additional eyes and ears to the VCU Police Department and will operate in conjunction with their patrol units.
  • Operate RMC-owned vehicles, utilizing their mounted light bars for high visibility.
  • Required to provide timely notifications to our Command Post on situations relative to hazards, suspicious persons/activity, and medical/other emergencies.
  • Maintain daily Occurrence Logs and Incident-specific reports to account for the services they provide.
  • Be approachable, proactive, and aware of persons who appear lost or looking for assistance and provide proactive assistance to those individuals.
  • Act as a deterrent to crime by being highly visible and extremely proactive in engaging with diverse populations.
  • Ability to operate a portable radio and provide clear transmissions in English.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Must be able to accurately follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) & Post Orders.
  • Must have reliable transportation and always be punctual for assigned shifts.
  • Capable of standing for long periods and lifting items weighing up to 20 pounds, as needed.
  • Repetitive movements are required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, and descend stairs, bend, squat, push, and pull frequently.
  • Work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions as well as occasionally outdoors in weather conditions with varying temperatures.
  • Ability to convey information clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to see and respond to dangerous/urgent situations, and report important visual details to management/police/first responders.
  • Must be able to work in all-weather environments.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the U.S.
  • A clean driving record with a zero or positive point balance is required.
  • Must have held a valid driver's license for at least one year.
  • Must submit to an extensive background check including criminal history (VA State Police & FBI fingerprints),
  • personal & professional references, & employment and education verifications.
  • Successfully complete the initial application process and required DCJS training course, provided by RMC Events.
  • Ability to interact cordially and communicate with a diverse community.
  • Ability to assess and react to all situations including emergencies quickly, accurately, and effectively.
  • Must maintain a neat, clean, & well-groomed appearance.
  • Must be able to work a permanent schedule with abundant overtime opportunities.
  • All employees are required to possess a fundamental proficiency in technology, such as using email, navigating
    scheduling software, and effectively utilizing tools like Zoom and MS Teams.
