RLA Engineering is Hiring a Packaging Design Engineer Near Vancouver, WA
- Assess the client’s current portfolio of packaging solutions and work with product R&D and manufacturing teams to yield packaging designs that optimize sustainability, cost, quality and customer experience metrics
- Design improved and/or new packaging solutions that can be leveraged across products to better standardize the production environment
- Anticipate packaging material needs from a cost, policy and/or regulatory compliance consideration
- Collaborate with a wide range of internal and external partners, including R&D teams, manufacturing/OEM teams, quality and reliability teams, compliance and sustainability teams and marketing/UX teams
- Collaborate with packaging simulation engineers to assess finite element analysis (FEA) and packaging models throughout the design development process
- Perform other duties as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Materials Science and Engineering, or related field
- Eligible to work in the US without RLA sponsorship for employment visa status
- 3 years of experience in a packaging design role
- Use of various CAD packages for mechanical part and assembly design
- Strong understanding of Quality Systems, Statistical Process Control, Design of Experiments, and basic statistical data analysis
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles and concepts
- Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Experience working with various packaging materials, methods, standards and regulatory requirements
- Experience with packaging manufacturing (production tooling and testing equipment)
- Experience working in R&D/proto/manufacturing environments
- Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently
- High proficiency using productivity software such as M365 (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Teams and SharePoint)
- Ability to use agile/scrum project/program management principles and methodologies to consistently meet task deadlines, triage changing priorities, and track issues to resolution
- Ability to collaborate across diverse teams with a customer service mindset
- The position typically operates in a standard office environment and/or from employee’s home
- Be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
