GENERAL INFORMATION

• Desired experience: 5 years of hot mix paving and/or base rehabilitation projects, 5 years of TXDOT project experience
• Minimum years of education required: High School/GED
• Willing to travel
• Must be authorized to work in the US

JOB DESCRIPTION of Superintendent, Construction

• Directs activities of workers involved with construction of highways, roads, pipelines, or other construction projects.
• Read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
• Studies specifications to plan procedures for construction on basis of starting/completion times and staffing requirements for each phase of construction, based on knowledge of available tools and equipment and various building methods.
• Coordinates with Human Resources department to post required job openings, interviews candidates, and makes personnel decisions.
• Determine needed resources (manpower, equipment, and materials) from start to finish with attention to budgetary limitations.
• Confers with and directs supervisory personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays.
• Collaborates with supervisory engineering personnel inspectors and suppliers of tools and materials to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
• Inspects work in progress to ensure that work conforms to specifications and that construction schedules are adhered to.
• Prepares (or receives from subordinates) reports of progress, materials used and costs, and adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports.
• Is responsible and accountable for safety performance and the implementation of environmental, health, and safety regulations/policies (governmental and company).
• Is responsible for usage and maintenance/repair scheduling of equipment utilized on project.
• Operation of a vehicle is normally required, and employee must meet the R.K. Hall Driver Qualification Standards.
• Overtime is often required.
• May be exposed to extremes of hot or cold weather. The job duties described herein are not exhaustive and may be supplemented.

SKILLS of Superintendent, Construction

• A team player with leadership abilities.
• Familiarity with quality and health/safety standards.
• In-depth understanding of highway construction procedures and materials along with project management principles.
• Good knowledge of MS Office.
• Familiarity with construction management software.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT of Superintendent, Construction

Individuals wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and production areas as required by OSHA and/or MSHA and company policy. Protective equipment that may be required for this position, includes but is not limited to: Safety toe boots, hard hat, safety glasses, high visibility safety apparel, gloves, occasional hearing protection, occasional respiratory protection.
