Job Summary

The Team Lead Lab Medical Technologist coordinates the technical activities of the Laboratory. This lead Medical Technologist provides input into development of policies and procedures and participates in the development of new technical procedures and ensures laboratory personnel maintain current knowledge of laboratory techniques, procedures, and equipment operation.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support and assist in compliance, regulatory testing, i.e. linearities, instrument comparisons, and compliance surveys (API, CAP). Works as a proficient resource for the Laboratory.
  • Follow laboratory quality control policies and procedures. Review Quality Control performed in the laboratory along appropriate follow up and troubleshooting as needed. Resolves technical problems and ensures that remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
  • Review maintenance logs and meet guidelines for completion. Responsible for device maintenance, troubleshooting, request repairs, work with Technical Support, and assist with device/hardware updates as needed. Document as required. Escalates to supervisory levels as needed.
  • Monitor inventory and supply volumes for the laboratory and assist in ordering as needed. Follows laboratory policies and procedures on optimal supply use and storage requirements.
  • Cooperate with Lab Assistants, Nursing, Physician Office Staff and Supervisory Staff to facilitate accurate test ordering, specimen integrity, and timely results reporting.
  • Assist in review of patient results for follow up as needed. Proactively investigate the status of all pending, delayed or recollected specimens and communicates pending tests to coworkers before taking breaks and before end of shift.
  • Assist with yearly competency evaluation of employees and participates with the College of American Pathologist inspection checklist review.
  • Attend management meetings as applicable to be a resource for information between laboratories and help with troubleshooting issues between the labs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

  • Minimum: Bachelor's degree in medical technology, or chemical, physical or biological science from an accredited institution. Must be MT (ASCP) or equivalent registered. Must meet requirements for Technical Supervisor under CLIA 1988

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum: Five (5) years of high complexity testing experience in hospital laboratory setting. Laboratory testing. General or specific experience in Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Coagulation, Microbiology, Serology and/or Urinalysis.
  • Preferred: Ten (10) of high complexity testing experience in hospital laboratory setting. Laboratory testing. General or specific experience in Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Coagulation, Microbiology, Serology and/or Urinalysis.

License/Certification Requirements

  • Minimum: MT (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) or equivalent
