Job Description:

Plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the Activity Department and as may be directed by the Administrator. To provide that an ongoing program of activities is designed to meet the comprehensive assessment, the interests, and the physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each patient.

Attendance Requirements:

Non-exempt status. May be required to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary. Subject to callback during any emergency.

Reports to Administrator

Essential Managerial Functions:

• Establish and maintain effective inter-departmental communication to provide positive working relationships.
• Comply with established budget restraints.
• Maintain appropriate supplies and equipment necessary to perform job and in accordance with established departmental budget.
• Organize and implement approved guidelines of the activity department.
• Administer the activity department in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Maintain documentation as required by State and Federal regulations.
• Coordinates the center-sponsored outings.
• Instruct and coordinate participation of volunteers with patients.
• May be required to care for center pets, e.g., dogs, cats, fish, and birds.
• Maintain the recreation equipment and supplies.
• Interview and assess patients on admission and regularly thereafter but no less than prior to each care plan conference.
• May be required to assist the patients in organization and continued development of patient council.
• May be required to coordinate the development of public functions.

Essential Skill/Knowledge Functions

• Maintain activity calendars that reflect the patient population and meet the needs of patients including special occasions, individual, large and small groups.
• Schedule a variety of activities such as parties, games, and other routine and special occasion activities during normal workdays and holidays and weekends.
• Participate in the RAI, RAP and Care Plan process.
• Participate in the admission, transfer and discharge process (including discharge planning).
• Coordinate activities with other departments as necessary.

Essential Administrative Functions

• Participate in Nursing Center surveys (Licensure / JCAHO) and any subsequently required reports.
• Attend and participate in continuing educational programs to keep abreast of changes in your field as well as to maintain current license/certification, as required.
• Attend and participate in mandatory in-services.
• Follow established safety procedures when performing job tasks and/or working with equipment.
