Position Overview

Riverside Research is seeking a Business Intelligence/Foreign Investment Risk Analyst to provide subject matter expertise, research, and analysis to national security projects. The BI/Risk Analyst will contribute to rapid due diligence analysis and risk assessments for DIU-facilitated projects in collaboration with USG agencies, international partners, and commercial technology providers. The candidate will also maintain and manage tactical and strategic LE/IC Alliances that support the DIU mission across diverse focus areas. Location is flexible, but ideally Bay Area, Boston, Austin, Chicago, or other innovation hubs (on-ramp locations). Qualified candidates can anticipate challenging and rewarding responsibilities involving rigorous research, pursuit of information, and collaboration to develop unique and insightful analysis that help DIU make informed acquisition security decisions in geopolitical contexts. This position is based in Mountain View, CA (alternate locations: Austin, TX; Boston, MA; Washington DC; Chicago, IL).

Responsibilities

  • Use diverse analytical tools, open-source resources, and databases to conduct rapid due diligence research and analysis into commercial business’ financial and investment networks as well as supplier relationships. Implement secure open-source research methods as required.
  • Identify, evaluate, and present findings related to adversarial financial and business relationships surrounding early stage vendors to publicly traded companies involved in emerging tech sectors, to include diligence on venture capital firms, defense-related academic grants, and other related entities.
  • Provide outreach and consultation to inter-agency partners and mission owners on topics related to national security risk exposures and risk mitigation best practices.
  • Project Management - Responsible for timely and accurate completion of tasks and communication of needs and successes alongside Program Managers.
  • Approximately 10-30% travel required / as needed to meet mission objectives.

Qualifications

  • 8 years of experience conducting national security or major fraud due diligence, analysis, research, operations, investigations, and fieldwork, or a combination thereof and a Bachelors in International Relations, Economics, Business, or Leadership preferred; or 6 years relevant experience and a Masters required. 
  • 4 years of experience in conducting industry and inter-agency outreach and support in a CI and Intelligence Capacity.
  • Experience conducting financial, business, and economic research in support of DoD research, development, and acquisition (RDA) security.
  • Familiarization of various open-source research capabilities, methodologies to investment, particularly investment into small to medium size early-stage technology companies.
  • Proven experience in identifying, evaluating, and presenting risk findings related to adversarial foreign investment; foreign intelligence; supply chain illumination, foreign ownership, control, and influence, and beneficial ownership, as well as non-traditional adversarial affiliations. Applicants must demonstrate use of sound analytical tradecraft in product development, must be versed in giving briefings and presentations, and must advance and leverage inter-and intra-agency collaboration and coordination efforts.
  • Understanding of critical, emerging, disruptive, or dual-use technologies and ability to utilize government sanctions information in identifying potential risks to said technologies and their vendors or creators.
  • Experience working in US counter-proliferation and counterintelligence functions.
  • Special Agent or CI Badging and Credentialing through formal U.S. Federal or DoD training academies. This includes training and field experience as an 1811, 1810, or 0132 federal or DoD job designations.
  • Working knowledge and experience of DoD and IC reporting, databases and associated systems, federal and/or DoD counterintelligence components, and policies and procedures.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, and adapt quickly to changing demands from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Impeccable character and enduring integrity.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance, current clearance preferred.

Global Comp

$150,000 - $220,000 This represents the typical compensation range for this position based on experience, location and other factors.
