Summary:

The Behavioral Medicine Hospital School Liaison (HSL) provides therapeutic service to adolescents and children in the school environment. The Behavioral Health Liaison utilize leadership, organizational, time management and clinical skill to assist the schools with identification and execution of behavioral health needs in school aged children (K-12).

E xperience/Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree Required.
  • Clinical experience working with children ages 5-18 with behavioral health needs preferred.
  • License or Certification Requirements: Current license in the State of Illinois as one of the following: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Licensed Social Work (LSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) required

    Responsibilities:

    Responsibilities

    • Provide individual and group therapy to students identified by school personnel who need behavioral health services as well as students who are discharging from inpatient or outpatient treatment services to support the student’s transition.
    • Complete behavioral health assessments at the school for students, evaluating need for inpatient or outpatient services, as requested.
    • Participates in marketing/educational activities that convey program information, as well as, provides in-services to academic staff in the schools including participation in back to school fairs as requested.
    • Notify schools of student’s admission and discharge from hospitalization or outpatient services.
    • Conduct/attend follow-up meetings, follow up phone calls with schools, parents/guardians as requested or needed. Ensures the children and adolescents who are receiving inpatient and outpatient programming are receiving education commensurate to the expectations of the school district.
    • Establish and maintain professional working relationships with clients, families, school personnel and interdisciplinary team members.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, professional behavior and ability to successfully mediate concerns and service recovery issues
    • Attends trainings and workshops to increase professional development and maintain current licensure. Completes follow through on referrals to Riverside received through the school, including but not limited to assessments, followups, education on Riverside levels of care.
    • Provides crisis training/intervention when requested by a school or Riverside leadership.

      Blood and Body Fluids: Obtaining and transporting patients' body fluids. Cleaning patients who are incontinent of urine and/or stool. Controlling the agitated student such as scratches, bites,etc. This potential exposure reduced through non-violent crisis intervention education and the use of universal precautions.

      Speech: Needed for communication with patients and other staff.
      Vision: Needed to read materials such as medical records.
      Smell: Needed to detect the odor of ETHO on patients, smoke in patients' rooms or electrical hazards.
      Hearing: Required for patient safety, telephone use, intercom announcements (i.e., Code 99) and vital signs.
      Touch: Required for pulse taking, supportive/comforting interventions and control.
