Summary:

Work with Orthopedic physicians, Head Athletic Trainer, and Operations Director in providing athletic training coverage as requested, provide clinic duties in Orthopedic practice, and design/educate patients on home exercise programs under guidance of physicians. Must have the ability to travel between school affiliates and clinics.
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred
  • At least 3 years experience working in a physician practice and secondary school preferred
  • Applied Knowledge: Athletic trainers must have knowledge about a large range of medical problems. Assessment and evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be needed
  • Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
  • Attention to Detail: Should be thorough and detailed in injury tracking and documentation
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situations
  • Must have the ability to organize prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.
License/Certification Requirements:
  • NATA BOC Certified
  • CPR Certified
  • Active IL Licensure required within 3 months of application to the State of Illinois

Responsibilities:

  • Develop plans for providing athletic training coverage at all interscholastic athletic events identified in Athletic Training Program Coverage Policy.
  • Liaison between patient, physician, parents, and coaching staff.
  • Establish and maintain a budget for athletic training supplies/equipment.
  • Establish daily hours of operation for the athletic training facility.
  • Develop comprehensive venue and condition specific emergency action plans.
  • Initiate and administer an athletic training student-aide program in accordance within the school’s clubs and activities guidelines and state law.
  • Establish a working relationship with a designated team physician and community physicians.
  • Establish a working relationship with school nursing staff.
  • Complete (School Systems) policies for training and comply with regulations.
  • Maintain adequate medical records on all injuries and rehabilitation procedures.
  • Comply with any and all policies regarding health care delivery as indicated by the school’s systems regulations and outlined in the Athletic Injury Management section of the school’s athletic training program policies and procedures manual.
  • Develops coach’s professional development for CPR/AED, Concussion, Heat Illness, Sudden Cardiac Death, and other programs as needed.
  • Engage in marketing and promotional events as needed. Responsible for following patient Care from check in to check out.
  • Responsible for taking patient history, initial evaluation, and documentation.
  • Design and educate patients on home exercise programs per physician request.
  • Responsible for patient setup and education of in-office procedures.
  • Prepares for and assists physician with in office procedures.
  • Responsible for brace and crutch fitting and product education.
  • Triage patient messages, phone calls and questions appropriately.
  • Responsible for maintaining clinic flow.
  • Completes Special projects as assigned.
  • Councils patients regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and outcomes as appropriate.
