Riverside Elementary School District No. 2 is Hiring a Dean of Students/TOSA Near Phoenix, AZ

Position Title: Dean of Students/TOSA

Classification: Certified - Exempt

Immediate Supervisor: School Principal

Terms of Employment: 11-month


Position Overview

The Dean of Students assists in providing a safe, effective school environment and supports the principal in providing preventative and disciplinary services for students, supervising students, scheduling school events, and supporting the school staff. Support overall instructional and administrative leadership necessary for increasing academic achievement and assist with student supervision and interventions to students experiencing problems with engagement and behaviors conducive to student success in the learning environment. Collaborates with the Principal to build community through instructional support for teachers, school events/activities, ESS department, and support for students and parents through the SBSP, using a process that offers a multi-tiered system of support.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

School Support and Leadership

  • Establish and enforce clear standards of conduct for interactions among students.
  • Address student behavioral issues promptly and effectively through communication with parents and the community regarding school/student concerns.
  • Acts on behalf of the principal in his/her absence.
  • Develop programs within the school to assist in preventing discipline occurrences and promoting a positive environment.
  • Assist teachers and staff with positive behavior plans that create student success in classroom behavior, attendance, and performance.
  • Support the principal with scheduling, student supervision, staff support, and facilities management. This includes ISS, ESS, EL, the Athletic Program, and the Student Council.
  • Supervises students on campus before and after school, during lunch, recess, passing periods, and other activities; instructs students on inappropriate behavior; and disciplines students according to established guidelines.
  • Supervises and assists Maintenance and Transportation with school buildings and facility issues by monitoring systematic procedures to maintain a clean, safe, and positive environment for students and staff.
  • Oversees and monitors all accident and injury reports and ensures they are completed and submitted through the proper channels.
  • As needed and directed by the principal, assist, monitor, and observe student behavior in the general education classrooms and the In-School Suspension program.
  • Comply with all Board policies, administrative regulations, District procedures, and all state, federal, and local laws and regulations.
  • Attend state/conference meetings and relevant professional meetings.
  • Attend meetings concerning district activities (including community groups such as the SBSP committee & Student Council Club) prioritized by the school principal.
  • Prepare and monitor an annual budget for activities and programs.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Communication

  • Communicate regularly with the building principal, staff, parents, and students.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to the school administration to be used in alignment with classroom management through the teacher evaluation process and teacher portfolio.
  • Meet regularly with the PLC teams and the school principal to report on instructional practices and progress and plan the “next steps” for student and school
  • Read, comprehend, and prepare various communication and information, including emails, correspondence, reports, articles, proposals, policies, charts, spreadsheets, curriculum documents, staff development plans, educational forms, and
  • Develop and monitor building schedules as needed for special events and oversee the duty schedule for both the regular education school days and schedules for behavior support plans and individual student support.

Professional Development

  • Work with school administration to design and provide professional development focused on improving alignment and delivery of the written, taught, and tested STEM2 curriculum to increase student success and close performance
  • Provide job-embedded professional development for teachers through modeling engaging, standards-based teaching while providing effective classroom management.
  • Provide community leadership in developing interscholastic activities and character-building programs.
  • Be available for associated student body meetings and clubs/organization meetings to support the athletic/activity coordinator.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students, parents, fans, and community members.
  • Maintain professionalism with parents and the community at all times.
  • Coordinate the use of all facilities and events with school/district personnel. This includes playground supervisors, safety drill schedules, and facilities used for the gym with community requests, as needed.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the SBSP committee to use effective strategies during the In-School Suspension program.
  • Encourage ongoing professional growth for all
  • Manage and distribute instructional resources to teachers and provide training on using those

  • Perform any duties and responsibilities within the scope of employment as assigned by the School Principal.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience in leadership and staff development
  • A minimum of three years of successful experience as a classroom teacher
  • Proficient in the essential elements of instruction and the integration of curriculum
  • Solving problems and resolving conflicts with students and adults
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and generate reports
  • Evaluate, mentor, and use effective training methods
  • Effective classroom management strategies and discipline methods
  • Student Special Education Laws and Compliance
  • Student IEP Evaluation, Behavior Evaluation, and Behavior Support plans
  • Communication and interpersonal skills, as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, and the general public, are sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certified Required
  • Valid Arizona Principal Certified Preferred
  • Master’s Degree in the Field of Education Preferred
  • Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card Required

Working Enviornment & District Expectations

  • The work environment is a normal school setting and a typical office setting.
  • The noise level is moderate.
  • The playground setting can include exposure to dirt, dust, and seasonal temperatures.
  • Occasional lifting, walking, and standing
  • Performance to be evaluated in accordance with the Governing Board policy on evaluation of certified staff.
