Job Title: Park Maintenance Grounds Worker Year Round

Department: Parks and Facilities

Location: Woodland Trails Park, 1500 E. Euclid, Mount Prospect, IL 60056

Reports To: Grounds Manager

Essential Functions
This is a year round position. Crew member working in landscaping, athletic field maintenance and/or general facility maintenance tasks under direction of Grounds Manager. Completes routine grounds maintenance such as raking, mowing, planting, and/or playground maintenance repairs. Averages 36-40 hours per week with overtime opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspects overall park appearance and safety
  • Playground inspection and documentation
  • Emptying garbage cans
  • Cleaning washrooms
  • Visually inspect playground equipment for graffiti and broken components
  • Care of trees, athletic fields, turf, shrubs and flower beds
  • Tree and plant pruning
  • Tree planting and removal
  • Mowing, line trimming, turf maintenance
  • Weeding
  • Help maintain a clean and organized maintenance shop
  • Snow removal operations
  • Striping and construction of athletic fields
  • Heavy equipment operation

Risk Management

  • Actively supports and enforces the safety program instituted by the Park District
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all general agency and department-specific safety rules
  • Attends required safety program and in-service education meetings as directed
  • Corrects unsafe conditions and/or reports them to your director supervisor
  • Enforces safety disciplinary policies and procedures
  • Uses material handling equipment or staff assistance when lifting and/or moving objects 50 pounds or heavier
  • Uses protective gloves, masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE)

Additional Functions

  • Performs other duties and functions as requested
  • On call nights and weekends as needed

Required Qualifications:

· Valid Illinois Driver’s License

· Must have the ability to operate equipment and tools safely and proficiently

· Must possess ability to work in team efficiently.

· Must possess customer service skills

· Must be able to pass a criminal background check
