Job Title: Diesel Technician (Night Shift)
Department: Service Department
Reports To: Shop Foreman and Service Manager
SUMMARY
To maintain, diagnose, and repair customers’ vehicles in an efficient, profitable manner, to provide the consumer with work that is of superior quality, to aid and assist co-workers in their goals of providing superior quality in their repairs, and to aid in maintaining a clean, safe work environment within the department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned and are to be considered another responsibility of employment as a Diesel Technician at River’s Truck Center, Inc.
Determine vehicles condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
Keep equipment available for use by completing preventative maintenance schedules; installing components and part upgrades.
Promote sales of labor, parts and accessories to meet customer needs.
Perform requested labor operations using recommended procedures, tools and equipment.
Document work performed with proper story and technical information as well as document any additional worked needed and not performed.
Correct vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts or systems, such as power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emissions, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches and traction units.
Order parts according to dealership procedures.
Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems as needed.
Comply with federal and state vehicle requirements by completing proper inspections.
Contains costs by using warranty, evaluating service and parts options.
Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
Maintain vehicle appearance by cleaning and washing as necessary.
Use of power tools, welders, and hand tools to complete necessary repairs.
Maintain tools, equipment and work area. Identify any necessary repairs of shop equipment to supervisor and assist in preventative maintenance of shop equipment.
Lifting of parts, materials, and tools weighing up to and possibly exceeding 75 pounds.
Assistance to co-workers in successful completion of repairs.
Maintenance of a level of cleanliness that is required by immediate supervisor. Exercise honesty, integrity and respect with all clients and co-workers.

Technical School Education in Diesel Repair preferred

Necessary language skills include the ability to read and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, co-workers, customers, and the general public. Necessary mathematical skills include the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and the ability to accurately measure materials.

While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, bend, squat, use hands and fingers, handle and feel, reach with arms and hands, climb scaffolding and equipment using hands, arms and legs. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 75 pounds with assistance. Vision abilities are required to successfully and safely complete this job, excluding color vision.
The work environment includes a noise level that ranges from moderate to high. The proper safety equipment is to be used by employees. The employee spends a large amount of his/her time climbing and working on scaffolding that requires balance and cautious, safe maneuvering. The work that is being completed creates and includes a substantial amount of dirt that must be maintained.
