Location: On-Site Alexandria VA, Possible Remote 3 days a week

Education/Experience: BA/BS degree and 10 years of experience or MA/MS degree or higher and 8 years of experience 

Project Overview

The System Administrator Technical Lead is responsible for overseeing and managing the Desktop Management and Monitoring Suite of products across various platforms. This role ensures the effective operation of the Desktop Management and Monitoring infrastructure within the organization. The administrator will lead initiatives to monitor and manage desktop software configurations, deploy new software, application updates, security patches, and track software and hardware inventory. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead and optimize Desktop Management and Monitoring infrastructure, ensuring effective operation and support of desktop software configurations, hardware inventory, and deployment of updates across various client platforms.
  • Administer Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) for efficient software, patch, and update deployments, while maintaining client images and task sequences.
  • Develop and uphold installation, configuration, and patch management procedures, aligning with organizational standards and security policies.
  • Oversee and support Security Compatibility Testing (SCT) to ensure application safety and compatibility across different systems.
  • Manage Active Directory environment tasks, including user and access management, group policy administration, and security controls.
  • Serve as a senior point of escalation for complex support issues, collaborating with Help Desk, IT teams, and system administrators to resolve challenges and share knowledge.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to IT staff, promoting a service-oriented culture and fostering team development.
  • Oversee and improve imaging processes through MDT integrations with MECM and manage the SCCM for device patching and updates.
  • Offer occasional off-hours support to manage critical system updates and maintenance, ensuring system reliability and performance.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Management Administrator, with expert knowledge in Microsoft’s System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) for managing and deploying software, updates, and patches.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server Scripting, essential for creating and managing database queries and automating administrative tasks.
  • Solid understanding of ITIL frameworks, particularly in incident and problem management, to ensure effective and standardized IT service delivery and support.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of workstation operating systems and networking, enabling efficient troubleshooting and optimization of client environments.
  • Deep understanding of the OSI Model, crucial for diagnosing and resolving network issues and ensuring robust network communication.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with IT Support Teams, fostering teamwork and knowledge sharing to resolve complex technical issues and improve service efficiency.
  • Demonstrated leadership or management experience in an IT environment, showcasing the ability to lead projects, mentor team members, and drive operational excellence.
  • Relevant certifications in Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Management or related fields are preferred to demonstrate proficiency and commitment to the field.
