POSITION:Social Emotional Paraprofessional - Marion Elementary School

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of 60 college credit hours required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years working in some capacity with children; preferably in a school setting.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Social-Emotional Paraprofessional

POSITION SUMMARY: The Social Emotional Paraprofessional supports identified students to remain in school and be successful in the classroom. The interventionist creates a safe environment for dysregulated students to refocus, relax, and practice the skills necessary to handle situations. The interventionist will be supported by the building counselor, social worker, and an administrator, to develop and implement individual student plans. The interventionist will be responsible for working with students individually and in small groups. Interventionists will be trained members of crisis and student support teams.

REPORTS TO: Principal

EXAMPLE (S) of WORK PERFORMED:

  • Responsible for supporting the Refocus Room.
  • Responsible for coordinating and creating student plans with students, teachers, administrators, and parents.
  • Maintains and promotes positive relationships in a safe and caring learning environment.
  • Monitors behavioral goals related to self-regulation.
  • Collects data and prepares reports for analysis.
  • Assists with the implementation of the school’s Positive Behavior Support and Intervention program.
  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with social skills.
  • Confers with parents on the progress of students.
  • Attends Student Support Team Meetings.
  • Serves as a Check In-Check Out mentor and manages student breaks with Identified Students.
  • Offers support in crisis situations with identified students (CPI Trained).
  • Assists with building supervision as necessary
  • Implement small group or individual plans in collaboration with counselor, social worker, and administration.
  • Participates in professional development related to meeting students’ social and emotional needs.
  • Takes reasonable and necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Demonstrates a respectful, cooperative and caring manner with students and adults in the school community.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (*)

(*) When a specific assignment has additional or different ESSENTIAL FUNCTION requirements, the differences will be discussed at the time of assignment.

  • Classroom management requires daily attendance to meet students’ needs.
  • Requires travel to work sites within a building.
  • Operates specialized equipment such as computers, copiers, etc.

Physical Demands (Strength)

  • Exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
  • Exerts 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or
  • Exerts 10 to 20 pounds constantly.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

Vocational Preparation: (Experience)

Minimum of 3-5 years working in some capacity with children; preferably in a school setting.

Education Preparation: (Formal and Informal)

Bachelor’s degree preferred.
