RISE Internship Program Summer 2024 
Program and Position Descriptions
RISE OVERVIEW:
RISE is a national nonprofit that educates and empowers the sports community to eliminate racial discrimination, champion social justice and improve race relations. Through partnerships and programs, we inspire leaders in sports to create positive change on matters of race and equality. www.RISEtoWIN.org
POSITION SUMMARY:
As a RISE intern and participant in the Summer 2024 RISE Internship Program, you will contribute to RISE’s work promoting social advocacy through sports. Your responsibilities will vary by department and in each departmental position description. All interns will complete project-based work in collaboration with employees in several departments across the organization. The Summer 2024 RISE Internship Program will include professional development programming and support, including connection and collaboration with fellow interns and additional developmental programming including an orientation, goal-setting and opportunities to engage in activities from RISE’s curriculum.
RISE is seeking five full-time interns for the following positions: 
  • Partnerships (one position): NYC (hybrid)
  • Programs (three positions): NYC (hybrid)
  • Team Operate & Programs Communications (one position): NYC (hybrid)

Compensation and Logistics:
All internship positions will be paid at $19/hr. Candidates will work approximately 40 hours per week. Most work will occur during the regular work hours of 9am to 5pm ET, but work may occasionally be required on nights and weekends. This internship is scheduled to start Monday June 10, 2024 and conclude Friday August 16, 2024.
Work Location: Hybrid
RISE staff is currently working remotely three days per week, with two in-office days per week in-office. Interns will be expected to report to RISE offices at the same cadence as full-time staff. For interns not already based in the NYC area, stipend will be provided for relocation to New York ($1500). This stipend will be paid upon confirmation of hiring, prior to start of internship.

INTERNSHIP POSITION DESCRIPTIONS BY DEPARTMENT
PARTNERSHIPS (ONE POSITION, NYC)
The RISE Partnerships team is seeking talented, emerging professionals to support establishing and managing RISE’s engagement with professional sports leagues, universities and professional athletes in achieving our mission. This position may take on a number of diverse tasks related to partnership development, cultivation and event planning execution. The ideal candidate would be interested in relationship management, and learning more about social justice through the lens of sport. 
The Partnerships intern will be a key contributor to the team’s partnerships outreach efforts, focusing on our Hub areas for engagement. This position will take on several tasks and projects focused on the organization and strategy for proper outreach efforts and tracking interactions with partners. The intern will gain hands on experience with one-on-one conversations with external partners, and curating support documents and presentations for external and internal uses.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 
  • Support partnership development and cultivation by qualifying leads, managing key components of our engagement with partners and assisting in the partnership outreach and retention process
  •  Support development of external engagement documents 
  • Support tracking conversations, data entry, and building reports through RISE’s CRM system (Salesforce) 
  • Execute logistical details for upcoming events and programming from start-to-finish 
  • Work closely with other departments within the organization on college, community, professional partner related initiatives including: education and leadership programs, events, campus conversations, public awareness content, activations, public relations and marketing 
  • Support supervisor and other RISE team members to achieve departmental goals within partnerships 
  • Conduct research on industry trends, key target markets and cities, and current initiatives centered on social justice.
QUALIFICATIONS: 
Required: 
  • Capable and comfortable with working on multiple tasks and prioritizing deliverables 
  • High level of attention to detail, strong work ethic and high level of professionalism 
  • Proactive mindset with a self-starter attitude, able to predict the next steps, provide suggestions and ask the right questions to keep work moving forward 
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills 
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) 
  • Knowledge and experience using Video Communications (Zoom, WebEx, Microsoft Teams, etc.)
  • Support planning and execution of RISE events and programming by planning logistics of event from start to finish and administrative support if necessary, including document preparation for RISE staff attending or CEO
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion and overall mission of RISE 
Desired:
  • Comfort engaging with partners/fans and some knowledge of the sales process

  • Ability to occasionally work weekends when necessary

PROGRAMS (THREE POSITIONS, NYC)
The Programs team works with athletes, coaches and administrators at every level to equip them with the knowledge and skills to stand up against racism and advance the conversation around race relations. With sports being central to all that we do, participants of RISE programs learn about the history of race and sports, its power to drive change and how they can become leaders in their teams, schools and communities.
Programs interns will be key contributors to the RISE team and the organization’s leadership & education workshops and multi-week leadership programs. This position will take on tasks and projects focused on the development and execution of programs, including internal and external collaboration and relationship management, supporting multi-week programs and single-session workshops, and developing RISE resources. Programs interns will also contribute to the department’s curriculum development, evaluation, and data analysis and management efforts. 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • In collaboration with RISE staff and partners, lead the start-to-finish planning and execution of one RISE leadership & education single-session workshop or event in Summer 2024 in collaboration with fellow interns 
  • In collaboration with staff, create comprehensive reports analyzing RISE work with various partners in multi-week leadership programming, as well as single-session programming 
  • Complete training with RISE staff for familiarization with curriculum and to prepare to facilitate and support programs 
  • Attend/participate in developmental trainings geared towards RISE staff, partners, former interns and/or external facilitators 
  • Support planning and execution of RISE leadership & education programs and workshops by providing administrative support as necessary, including materials and document preparation, data collection, entry and management, technical assistance for programs held on video calls and other tasks as needed 
  • Assist in overall management of Salesforce for Programs
  • Assist with overall administrative duties for Facilitator process
  • Assist with creating and writing program overviews and curriculum presentations
  • Contribute to RISE content by researching, writing, and creating educational articles and activities 
  • If applicable: translation responsibilities including curating of content in Spanish 
Previous Leadership & Education interns have completed work including:
  • Support of RISE sessions with middle and high school students and athletes, college athletes and athletics staff, professional athletes and team staff and more
  • Creation of content for RISE curriculum to be used in modules and activities
  • Completion of program and workshop recaps utilizing data from pre and post-program surveys
  • Writing or otherwise creating content for RISE’s website and Learning Management Systems, including the RISE Digital Learning Series
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
  • The capacity to work on multiple tasks and projects with attention to detail, prioritize a challenging workload, being well organized and dependable, positive and solution-oriented 
  • Knowledge of basic statistics, including familiarity with quantitative report-writing and fundamental concepts such as measures of central tendency 
  • Strong passion and knowledge of social justice issues and cultural competence 
  • Good time management and problem-solving skills with a willingness to be flexible and proactive in a fast-paced and challenging work environment 
  • Role requires a high degree of interpersonal skills while working with people of various ages, genders, and racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds 
  • Ability to travel domestically and work nights or weekends, if necessary
Desired:
  • Fluency in Spanish 
  • Completion of coursework including courses such as or similar to Introductory Statistics and Statistical Methods
TEAM OPERATE & PROGRAMS COMMUNICATIONS (ONE POSITION, NYC)
This position will have the unique opportunity to work and collaborate with senior leadership on decision-making and organizational alignment of RISE's goals and strategic priorities. In this operational and communications-oriented position, they will work closely with the CEO, Chief of Staff, Executive Assistant/Operations Manager and Senior Director, Programs and Strategic Communications. This individual will also assist in developing, implementing and maintaining special projects and initiatives specific to the CEO’s agenda.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 
  • Work closely with CEO and Chief of Staff on monthly board emails and updates
  • Assist with creation of digital content and copy, including for program-specific social media, website, podcast, media advisories, press releases and marketing materials
  • Support with brand/CEO communications
  • Assist with the written, visual and audio storytelling of RISE programs, partnerships and impact
  • Monitor news and articles relevant to RISE’s mission and social justice
  • Help in creating supportive documents for internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist with media inquiries and media relations
  • Assist in the development of marketing strategies and assets to promote RISE experiences and programs
  • Support management of RISE asset inventory
  • Support with organizational bookkeeping
  • Assist with additional Team Operate tasks as assigned
