About the role

We are looking for anAdvisor - Cost Estimatorto ensure successful cost estimating standardization, estimating tool use, database refinement and robust estimate development across all the operating divisions of Rio Tinto Kennecott. The role is based in South Jordan, Utah with travel between local sites in the SLC area, as required.

This role is a great opportunity to assist in leading the Rio Tinto Kennecott Projects & Engineering team toward their goal to become the leading plant project practitioners across the industry. The team strives to continuously improve project management skills and functions to efficiently deliver its challenging project portfolio, averaging $500M per year.

Reporting to the manager Estimating & Assurance, you will be:

  • Using the latest Estimating Software to build out our local database and maintain the estimating tool.
  • Supporting development of benchmarking data by collecting and incorporating project data in the database using a state-of-the-art estimating software.
  • Develop or supporting development of project cost estimates.
  • Identifying improvement opportunities for streamlining estimating work process.
  • Participating in estimate check reviews and project contingency evaluations, both deterministic and probabilistic.
  • Supporting compliance with standardized processes, systems and tools.
  • Maintaining the relationship with contracting and other project cost estimating stakeholders.
  • Maintaining relationships with the procurement and cost engineering groups to ensure accuracy in current trends.
  • Analyzing trends and reporting changes to the estimate.
  • Providing technical support to project stakeholders.
  • Utilizing the guidance and protocols for cost estimation in the capital projects framework.
  • Driven to succeed in a first class operation.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, Economics, Math, Engineering or Business-related discipline or other combination of education, trades training and/or hands on experience will be considered.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in project cost estimating in mining, heavy industry, civil, mechanical, or E&I.

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Field experience with quantity surveying, estimating, cost, or scheduling.
  • Experience in a junior engineer or Project Management role.
  • Estimating software experience
  • MS Excel, Word and MS Project skills
