Rincon Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Senior Practice Builder (Principal) to lead our growing teamin Environmental Sciences, Planning, & Sustainability (EPS) in Northern California. In this role, you will collaborate with local and statewide leadership to oversee and expand existing programs and Rincon's client base, with an emphasis on our northern California offices, which currently include locations in Monterey, Oakland, San Jose, and Sacramento. 

As a part of Rincon’s senior leadership team, you will be responsible for growing, mentoring, and further developing Rincon’s EPS service line, heightening our firm’s visibility in several market sectors, and expanding our client relationships in the environmental services marketplace throughout Northern California. This role will involve collaboration with Rincon's multi-disciplinary technical experts, and oversight of a wide variety of project teams, including community planning, CEQA/NEPA documentation, climate action/adaptation/resiliency planning, regulatory permitting, environmental investigations, and construction mitigation monitoring. Through the focused and effective leadership of multi-disciplined project teams you will be responsible for ensuring consistency and quality in all phases of project work, from proposal development to reporting.

Overview of Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Management

  • Lead and expand Rincon’s services, in coordination with Direct Supervisor and other Rincon Principals and Directors
  • Build and expand long-term client relationships
  • Identify staffing and organize resources to optimize Rincon market share
  • Provide Principal-level oversight for the preparation of complex environmental and/or planning studies
  • Provide the final review of work products for quality assurance/quality control
  • Interface with clients and make public presentations to agency decision-making bodies
  • Demonstrate confidence in decision-making and be recognized by clients and peers as having expertise in planning and environmental compliance

Business Development and Operations Management

  • Identify market strategy for overall Northern California environmental planning practice
  • Perform various business development functions, identifying business opportunities, leading proposal preparation, attendance at interviews and leading company outreach/marketing and business development efforts
  • Be actively involved in environmental industry organizations statewide
  • Work with other Rincon leaders in the development of the annual Business Plan and lead implementation of the Business Plan
  • Cross-market other Rincon service lines to clients

Talent Advancement

  • Mentor junior, mid-level and senior staff in developing as better consultants
  • Support development of career path planning for cultural resources staff
  • Identify and recruit qualified staff, as needed

This Job Might Be For You If You Have The Following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Biology, or related field
  • 15 years of experience in progressive and successful environmental consulting (Project Management, Business Development and Technical Work) 
  • Excellent communication, planning, budgeting and organizational skills
  • Strong business acumen and customer service skills
  • Actively involved in market sector and environmental industry organizations statewide
  • Positive attitude and eager to streamline and improve processes and workflows
  • Strong team building and management skills
  • Highly motivated with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Detail-oriented, resourceful, strong time management skills, and innovative

The base salary range for this full-time position is $175,000-$225,000, plus benefits and bonus. At Rincon, our salary ranges are based on market median of similar jobs, according to third party salary benchmark surveys. The base pay that is actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
