Rincon Consultants is Hiring a Principal Environmental Consultant, Energy and Utilities Near Various Locations, CA

Rincon Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Principal for our Natural Resources team. We are looking for an experienced candidate who will be able to manage effective engagement in the Energy and Utilities market by overseeing and working closely with Rincon’s internal teams while interfacing with multiple Energy and Utilities clients. This leadership role entails providing direction for current programs and development of new opportunities within the Energy and Utilities market sector with a primary focus on either utilities or energy depending on the candidate’s background.
The Principal should have strong skills in business development, client management, professional communication, quality control measures with high-level QA/QC oversight, strategic consulting program advisement and planning, team supervision, and staff mentorship. In this position, the candidate will work with a diverse group of Rincon leaders within the Energy and Utilities market team and across multiple disciplines and service lines within the firm. This role offers a flexible working environment with some in-person requirements that could be filled out any one of our California offices including: Sacramento, Oakland, Los Angeles, San Diego, Carlsbad, Ventura, Santa Barbara, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, or Fresno.
 
Overview of Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Strategic Business Development and Client Management 
  • Support oversight, strategic planning and development of Rincon’s statewide Energy & Utilities program in coordination with other Rincon leaders 
  • Act as client manager for key clients in Rincon’s Energy & Utilities program including supporting existing energy production facilities and renewable energy development
  • Perform business development functions, focused on leading proposal preparation, attendance at interviews and leading company outreach, marketing, networking, and business development efforts related to Rincon’s statewide Energy & Utilities strategic planning 
  • Collaborate with other Rincon service line leaders on Business Development planning and strategic client pursuits 
Operations and Technical Guidance 
  • Collaborate with Energy and Utilities and other service line leadership in business operations including contract/risk management and program oversight 
  • Provide final signatory review of technical studies for quality assurance/quality control 
  • Execute and prioritize multiple technical assignments and complete work satisfactorily within schedule and budget constraints through delegation of assignments to project team members 
  • Provide guidance and oversight for Rincon’s statewide Energy and Utilities practice (consultation assistance, strategies, and other support consulting services) and internal operations 
  • Stay abreast of energy and utilities regulations and ensure that clients are compliant with relevant laws and standards.
Talent Advancement and Team Leadership
  • Identify and recruit qualified staff for the Energy & Utilities and Natural Resources programs
  • Train/mentor senior staff on strategic thinking, business development, large program management, utilities and/or energy market drivers and client standards, and applicable technical and regulatory permitting 
  • Supervise and direct staff to ensure positive motivation, training, optimal productivity, and employee recognition 
  • Manage annual performance reviews and professional development plans 
 
This Job Might Be For You If You Have The Following: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, or related field 
  • 12 years of experience in progressive and successful environmental consulting, proven experience within the energy or utilities sectors (Project Management, Business Development and Technical Work)
  • Excellent communication, presentation, planning, budgeting and organizational skills 
  • Strong business acumen and customer service skills 
  • Actively involved in market sector and environmental industry organizations statewide and knowledge of regulatory frameworks and industry standards
  • Positive attitude and eager to streamline and improve process and workflows 
  • Strong team building and management skills 
  • Highly motivated with strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team 
  • Detail-oriented, resourceful, strong time management skills, and innovative 
  • Excellent computer and file management skills including systems such as SharePoint

The base salary range for this full-time position is $120,000-$170,000, plus benefits and bonus. At Rincon, our salary ranges are based on market median of similar jobs, according to third party salary benchmark surveys. The base pay that is actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
