Description

Rigaku Analytical Devices is seeking an Electrical/System Engineer with a strong background in analog and digital circuit design to advance the company's development efforts and optimize currently released products. This candidate will act as a technical liaison between engineering and manufacturing for ongoing New Product Introduction efforts, bridging the transition from prototype to product. Therefore, it is critical that the candidate possess significant experience in the product development process through all stages spanning ideation, prototyping, commercial release, sustaining, and end-of-life.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to a small multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists designing high precision analog and digital systems for scientific instruments.
  • Creates electrical schematics and performs layout and routing for new PCB/PCA designs.
  • Works in parallel with mechanical and software engineering for new product development efforts.
  • Provide technical leadership and system engineering expertise to a team of engineers and scientists in designing highly competitive analytical instrumentation.
  • Provides expertise to manufacturing teams for sustaining activities of released products and transition from prototype to product for new releases.

  • Work closely with cross functional team to carry out tests, validations and project plans.
  • Escalation pointsfor electrical/PCB troubleshooting.
  • Work with contractors, suppliers and 3rd party vendors when technical expertise is needed.
  • Has demonstrated experience and success with a formal product development process (stage-gate or New Product Introduction).
Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong capability with analog-to-digital design including op amps, high voltage (RF and DC), and control systems (PID).
  • Experience with digital design; FPGA design and programming, and microprocessor and microcontroller familiarity.
  • Ability to take a PCB/A schematic and layout design from definition to manufacturing release.
  • Proven experience in electrical system design, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in using relevant software tools and programming.
  • Experience and capability using lab test equipment to troubleshoot systems down to the component level.
  • Firm understanding of the electrical design process.
  • Hands-on approach whether it be building a prototype or performing testing.
  • Extensive experience with Altium PCB design software.
  • Knowledge of RoHS.
  • Ability to understand and solve complex design challenges both independently and as part of a design team.
  • Working knowledge of CE/UL testing and product safety regulatory standards.
  • Experience transitioning prototypes to commercial release, e.g., configuration control, agency testing, and transferring engineering technology to a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills as well as strong critical thinking and persuasion skills.

Preferred Skills/Abilities:

  • Previous experience with complex electromechanical scientific instrumentation or medical devices. Experience specifically with handheld analytical devices such as Raman, FTIR, XRF, LIBS is preferred.
  • Highly experienced in hardware design & development processes across a wide range of disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, industrial design, software, usability/human-factors, and manufacturing.
  • Experience with software coding (C , Python, LabView etc.).

Education Requirements:

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5-7 years of work experience, 10 years for Senior Engineer.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
