SUMMARY

Performs various tasks to provide a clean environment for our patients.


ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS

Non-exempt Status: May be required to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary. Subject to callback during any emergency.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

A high school diploma or its equivalent preferred.

ESSENTIAL SKILL/KNOWLEDGE FUNCTIONS

  • Tends laundering machines to clean sheets, blankets, pillow coverings, and personal articles of patients
  • Loads articles into washer and adds specified amount of detergent or other cleaning agents
  • Lifts, clean, wet articles from washer and places them successively into wringers and dryers for measured time cycles
  • Sorts dry articles according to identification
  • Folds and places items in appropriate storage bin
  • Folds and sorts clothes
  • Hangs clothes on racks according to name and numbers
  • Delivers patients laundry to designated areas
  • Ensures the patients clothes are ready to wear, and any in disrepair put in proper place
  • Understands functions of various soaps and bleaches
  • Follows precautions as stated on SDS for all chemicals used
  • Washes and dries clothes and linens
  • Keeps equipment clean and follows cleaning schedules
  • Sweeps and mops laundry area
  • Reports any needed repairs to maintenance department
  • Operates large equipment (Washers, dryers, etc.)
  • Cleans lint traps/filters according to established schedules
  • Handling of soiled laundry items
  • Sorts and folds various laundry items (blankets, sheets, towels etc.)
  • Cleans and disinfects linen carts as required
  • Empties washers and dryers as requested/necessary
  • Operates water, gas, and electric cutoff switches and valves
  • Stain removal

ESSENTIAL ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS

  • Participate in Nursing Center surveys (Licensure / JCAHO) and any subsequently required reports.
  • Attend and participate in continuing educational programs to keep abreast on changes in your field as well as to maintain current license/certification, as required.
  • Attend and participate in mandatory in-services.
  • Honor patients rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints.
  • Comply with Corporate Compliance Program.
  • Report job-related functions/tasks that involve occupational hazards including exposure to blood and body fluids and others as necessary.
  • Follow established safety regulations, to include fire protection/prevention, smoking regulations, infection control, etc.
  • Follow established safety procedures when performing job tasks and/or working with equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary and as directed by supervisor.
  • Comply with all Privacy and Security programs.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS

Primary Physical Requirements:

  • Lift up to 10 lbs.: Constantly required while loading and unloading washer and dryer
  • Lift 11 to 25 lbs.: Constantly required while loading and unloading washer and dryer
  • Lift 26 to 40 lbs.: Frequently required when putting wet laundry in carts and then placing in dryer
  • Lift over 40 lbs.: not required
  • Carry up to 10 lbs.: Occasionally may be required to carry wet laundry from one location to another (10 to 25 feet)
  • Carry 11 to 25 lbs.: Occasionally may be required to carry wet laundry from one location to another. (10-25 feet)
  • Carry 26 to 40 lbs.: Occasionally may be required to carry wet laundry from one location to another. (10-25 feet)
  • Carry over 40 lbs.: Occasionally may have to lift up to 50 lbs. of weight.
  • Reach above shoulder height: 4 feet.
  • Reach at shoulder height: Frequently required when folding laundry articles
  • Reach below shoulder height: Occasionally may occur when loading or unloading laundry or when folding laundry articles
  • Push/Pull: 20 feet.

Hand Manipulation:

  • Grasping: Constantly grasping clothing and linens, either wet or dry.
  • Handling: Constantly handling clothing and linens, either wet or dry.
  • Fingering: Constantly required while folding personal items of patients
  • Controls & Equipment: Industrial-sized washer and dryers are used. Associate is required to know how to operate equipment. May have instance to use a step ladder.

Other Physical Considerations:

  • Twisting: Frequently required when loading and unloading washer and dryers.
  • Bending: Frequently required when loading and unloading washer and dryers.
  • Squatting: Frequently may be required when delivering linens throughout the facility.
  • Crouching: Infrequently required when delivering laundry to various closets, patients, etc.
  • Climbing: Occasionally.

  • Tasting & Smelling: Not required.


EQUIPMENT USED

Industrial sized washers and dryers are used. May use a step-ladder.


SUMMARY OF OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURES

Tasks assigned to this position may involve potential and/or direct exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious disease, air contaminants and hazardous chemicals. May be subject to hostile and emotionally upset patients, family members, associates and visitors.


OTHER CONSIDERATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Many associates are designated to one portion of the laundry room where they are required to either fold laundry, or load and unload machines. Associates may be required to also walk throughout the facility while delivering personal items to patients rooms. This position is extremely physical and associate must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. of weight.
