QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
• Current Texas Registered Nurse license issued by the Board of Nurse Examiners.
• Current BLS for Healthcare Providers CPR Certification.
• Previous experience in school, pediatric, emergency room, or community health desirable.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work with parents, teachers, and administrators.
• Ability to work as a team member.
• Demonstrated expertise in pediatric/adolescent assessments.
• Ability to understand and communicate in Spanish desirable.
• Computer/technology skills required.
• Time management and multitasking skills required.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for planning, management, and evaluation of acute, chronic, and emergency health care problems within the school setting, including referral and follow-up.
• Perform health appraisals, and develop nursing care plans.
• Manage and control communicable disease and maintain immunization compliance.
• Coordinate Health Services program with Instructional program.
• Teach within classroom and community setting.
• Provide specialized nursing care procedures.
• Maintain comprehensive and accurate records and documentation, and compile reports.
• Adhere to policies of the district and the department, including state and federal regulations.
• Maintain and enhance professional skills and knowledge.
• Complete required staff development; adhere to the district employee handbook policies.
• Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; lifting and transfer of students.
• Perform other duties as required by the principal and/or supervisor.
